Problem reinstalling NOD32

Hi there,
I had some problems with a few programs and decided to reinstall them.
NOD32 was one of them and when I did the reinstall everything went well with the install wizard up until the stage where it tells you it's going to start the program (the very last window), instead I get a message of error:

NOD32 SETUP

(120) Error occured while registering the service. NOD32MOD_WINNT_ENGLISH_BASE

I'm pretty sure UserName and Password are correct and I also made sure to delete the ESET file in 'Program files' before the install.

Can anyone tell me what did I do wrong? Thanks.

Do the following files exist?

C Drive> Windows> Temp

C Drive> Documents and Settings> (User Name) XXXXXX> Local Settings> Temp

Have you the right to write in the registry ?
Have you administrator rights in your system ?
Error #120 is 'error registring service', then ....

I have adminstrator's rights, but that's not the problem. When you mentioned
'the right to write in the registry' suddenly I realized I'm trialling 'Regdefend' and even though I have disabled it before installing NOD, it might have locked the registry. Well, it goes without saying that upon uninstalling Regdefend, NOD installed perfectly. Is Regdefend so effective as to protect the registry even when disabled? Thanks again for your quick response!

It's like quitting nod32kui - you won't see any alerts, but the NOD32's kernel servise will still block access to infected files.

hate to dig up an old thread, but ive tried installing, and its done exactly the same thing.

I dont know if i have any "regdefend" like programs that the dude above noted.

Any help is welcome.

If you search the registry for "nod32" is something found? What if you delete all the entries containing nod32 and then try to reinstall NOD32 ?

my previous antivirus was Norton.

Could you please download the Norton Removal tool for versions 2000 to 2003 use this link: http://service1.symantec.com/support/nav.nsf/docid/2001092114452606?OpenDocument&ExpandSection=1#_Section1

For versions 2004 to 2006 use this link: http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/sharedtech.nsf/docid/2006031710323113?Open&src=&docid=2005033108162039&nsf=tsgeninfo.nsf&view=docid&dtype=&prod=&ver=&osv=&osv_lvl=&seg

Please download a FRESH copy of Nod32

Uninstall Norton through the Windows Control Panel> Add or Remove Programs

Reboot your computer and check the Windows Control Panel that all of Norton has been removed.

Run the Norton removal tool that you downloaded above and reboot your system.

Uninstall your current version of NOD32.

REBOOT your Computer.

Remove the Eset Folder from C Drive> Program Files.

Click Start> Run

Type in: Regedit

Click on Edit> Find

Type in: Eset

Delete anything found relating to "Eset" as in NOD32.

Install the FRESH copy of Nod32 that you downloaded above using “Typical Settings”.

thanks mate, seems that despite thinking that i'd deleted everything, searching regedit brought about one last ESET folder i hadnt deleted. Works fine now.
