Hello Everyone

We have never used IM, ICQ or any other programs like them, only chat using irc. Is it possible with today's security applications and correct settings to install and use an IM/ICQ-type program in a secure and security conscious way? We have heard that Trillian might do the trick.

Thank you.

Hi QSection,

I think Trillian is safer then Messenger, but like with any program, it´s in the way you use it.
Having an idea about how you would, makes me think you should be fine. :)

Pieter

Hi QSection,

I just found out, that you can secure ICQ with PGP. I found it by hasard in their manual. Just go there and check it out. Perhaps it's what you were looking for. ;)

Patrice

I've found Trillian to be quite secure (or, at least no one has as of yet run around quoting any of my conversations from it! <g> ). No problems with being hacked, infected, etc.

The key there is to make sure first that whatever base account you're going to use is set up as securely as the settings will allow - then make sure all your Trillian settings are secure.

Keeping up with security-related updates for both sets of programs is, of course, vital.
