View Full Version : What should be done now with TDS-3 auto update and hosts file entry?

Hello Everyone!

Currently when TDS-3 starts up, it shows:

Databases updated 12-08-2005
61039 references - 32765 primaries/15945 traces/12329 variants/other?

Is this the correct "final update version"? If not, how do I get the last update?

Radius update also tries to update 3 times:
The first 2 times it says:
Downloaded file was corrupt, trying next server...

The 3rd time it says:
Database already up-to-date - transfer aborted.

Should I turn off auto update at start up? How is that done? I couldn't seem to find the option in configuration.

Also, in my hosts file there is the entry:
64.91.255.87 www.dcsresearch.com
Should I remove that entry, change it, or leave it?

Thanks Bubba.

That answers 2 of the questions.
I'll leave the hosts file entry since it is for support rather than sig updates.
And at the top of the forum it showed:
TDS-3 References: 61039. Last updated Tue Aug 9 2005.
So my signatures are up to date.

That leaves the last question.
Since there will be no more signature updates, how do I turn off the auto update feature?

Well, I guess I should have RTFM!
It was a while ago, but I guess I missed the option.

To turn off the auto updates that happen twice a week go to:
TDS menu/Configuration.../Options Tab
Uncheck Automatic Database Updates

Thanks again Bubba!

Don't quote me on that....the memory is the first thing to go....they say :o

Edit
Ah Hah....you found it.

Yep, you found it. Unchecking the autoupdate saves you the error messages.
Glad you decided to keep TDS installed. It still has lots of very handy uses, and keep an eye on the forum!

You're welcome!
Have fun with TDS!
It still has lots of uses even in security.
