I know SPF is not so highly regarded in this forum cause of the loopback issue if running local proxy software and the recent Symantec takeover, but I believe it still has a wide user base.

This is intended for newbie installation and configuration. Some hints as well there ;)

Can you elaborate on this? What is local proxy software?

PS - found your site very useful - I like sygate also.

Something like Proxomitron. To filter your web content before it reaches your browser. I am no expert in this matter, but it is definitely a Sygate shortcoming.
Local proxies allow programs to bypass Sygate's outbound allowance.
They can go to net without asking you, no matter if you allowed them or not.

I personally use Avast antivirus that has a Webshield proxy. Examines what is coming to your PC Harddisk by surfing sites. I consider it a rather well behaved local proxy, restricted only to browsers you use. And if not an regular IE user you can configure it to not use that proxy.

There are extensions to Mozilla Firefox like AdBlock, NoScript etc. that don't have that negative impact even though they too filter web content.

With Sygate, it comes to the compromise. Either not running local proxy software, or else loosing some outbound protection.
