Need Advice

I am thinking of getting DSL and one of my PC's is running Windows 98SE with Zone Alarm 4.5 and AVG.My main concern is privacy and to being protected while not online.Are these 2 programs enough or are there any better ones out there?
Resources are an issue,I have 196mb of Ram and am using a Pent 2.
Any input would be helpful.

ZA should be fine from the firewall point of view. You will always get varied opinions on what is better ;)

You mention one of your machines, will you be sharing this new connection with multiple systems? If so, a router allows for this and will afford good inbound protection for all the systems behind it.
