BitDefender hates Gmail...

Ok, I got a problem....

BitDefender's (Version 9) mail scanner only scans on port 110, but Gmail's POP3 access is on port 995 and there are no settings in BD to change the port it checks...

Does anyone know a fix to correct this? or any suggestions? :'(

It is not possible for any AV to scan port 995. It is an SSL port.

Does that mean that malware could come it through G mail undetected? I assume that is the case, but the AV would catch it when it was installed on the computer.
Is that true?

Gmails' attatchment policy means not much of a chance for most malware to get through.
And yes, the AV would catch it as soon as it's on the computer.

Since switching my main accout to Gmail I have received zero spam and zero malware.

Thats the main pro of SSL. Technically nothing can intercept connection without breaking the chain. Thats why even AVs can't scan mail using POP3 protocol.
IMAP in MS Outlook is another thing. avast!,NOD32 and McAfee VSE 8.0 can check mails in MS Outlook even if you're using POP3 over SSL.

Now I am confused, as I thought most email was POP3, and I notice that my AV is scanning incoming email.
What is actually happening? Of course I notice that an attachment is not identified as a virus until you click on it.

Sorry to be so dumb, but if it is not scanning "incoming email" as it states, then what is it scanning? I am using OE and Bit Defender.
I thought a strong point for AVs is that they scanned incoming email.
I also hate to admit that I do not know what "SSL" is.

Thanks. I thought that is what it did, and I guess I did not understand that what was discussed was scanning before downloading.
