If anyone has a question about Opera or has a setting that they think would be useful This is the Place ;)
We can start with these basic settings here (http://tlt.its.psu.edu/suggestions/international/browsers/opera.html)
and some more info on features here (http://reviews.cnet.com/Opera_8/4505-9241_7-31338423-3.html)

Making a Bookmarks Toolbar
To get your bookmarks on the toolbar:
Right click on the toolbar, click on customize, tick "Personal Bar" then click on OK.
Go to Bookmarks and Manage Bookmarks. If you don't see any bookmarks, click in the white space in the left window pane. Then right-click on a bookmark and click on "Show in personal bar" ^_^ (Then click on OK)

To get a bookmark on the personal bar can be accomplished by drag and drop from the address bar also ;)

To allow opera to remember your sign in info at wilders and other sites you need to click tools at the top of the GUI then / preferences/ advanced/cookies and tick the box that says (use cookies to track password protected pages)

If you have bookmarks or favorites in IE you would like to have in Opera you can import them with about two or three clicks. First click on file at top left of page and then click import from Internet explorer favorites. see screen shot you can also import firefox bookmarks also

Hi, bigc73542
Is there a simple way to import my bookmarks from Firefox to Opera please?
Plus the same with my emails from Thunderbird?
Also your buttons look very small are they adjustable [sizeable]?

You can make Opera look just like Firefox.
Under Toolbars:
-Add the Main toolbar
-Add the Personal toolbar
-Uncheck the Address toolbar
-Now, right-click the Main toolbar, select customize.
Remove buttons you don't want and add forward, back, stop, wand and home buttons.
-Drag the address field up on the Main toolbar
-Drag the search field up on the main toolbar next to the address field
-Add others such as "Go" and "Security"
Download the FFrad skin from the Opera website.

To import FF bookmarks to opera see post#7 and as far as the buttons go, I am useing about the smallest opera skin there is so I will have the maximum screen size. Some of the other several hundred skins do have much larger buttons or anywhere in between. Very customizable ;)

How do I import my contacts from pocomail into operamail?
Also is there a way to make it so when I click on my bookmark it opens in the current page and not open a new tab or a new browser window?
Also I love the right click and search amazon, google, ebay feature. Is there a way to customize that so I can click on a movie and search IMDB from the context menu?
Sorry for all the questions, I like this broswer though.

this is my fantastic tip. to download videos using feedburner. go to this (http://diggnation.typepad.com/) page and click on FEEDBURNER, under where it says "Get the feed!", Subscribe to the feed, you can then click on any that say Episode#...VIDEO make sure it says VIDEO and not AUDIO.
to organise your casts, click, at the top of the screen, where it says FEEDS, then MANAGE. there you can pick which casts you want to be notifed about.

Ok, I have another one for you guys...
Is there a way to just minimize to the system tray? I see it on there while I surf, but when I minimize it, Opera just goes to the taskbar.
My ideal setting would be for me to exit opera, but leave it running in the system tray so I can click on it when I need to surf again. Any thoughts??

I normally change preferences to let the user decide, then visit all of the sites i visit regular that i know are safe such as this one and accept all of the cookies.
After i have been to all sites and logged on etc i then change preferences to
"normal cookies - treat as specified in server manager."

thanks, i'll give it a go. so you mean you allow your trusted sites -
"normal cookies - treat as specified in server manager."
"Third party cookies to accept all"
oh, i don't understand it looks like i'll never login again. i'll never allow any site control of cookies (third party) i have had third party setup to accept cookies to the server it's self, and block all, but it still doesn't work. and i put Wilders in the cookie manager.
so the only way i can have cookies work here is to allow all third party? i know that's not right. I GIVE UP. :'(

Another way is to once again visit all of your safe sites and log in and save the cookies.
Close the browser, start it up again, check "delete new cookies when closing opera"
Then close the browser, start it up again, then all new cookies from your recent browsing session will be deleted every time you close opera.

Hello People,
I am amazed by opera so far. I have a small problem at the moment, which I haven't been able to solve. I sign-in a page with a password, for example in yahoo-mail, or in a forum and then I sign out. Still, if I click the back button, it really takes me back in, without asking me for the password again. How one can deal with that (without closing opera and/or deleting all private data)? It doesn't happen in IE or Firefox,
thanks.

in firefox ctrl + enter puts www. and .com around the address (e.g. yahoo), shift + enter puts www. and .net around it, and ctrl + shift + enter puts www. and .org around it.
does opera at least have an equivelent for the first shortcut?

Since no-one has yet mentioned this, it is possible to configure Opera to warn you whenever you connect to a secure website (https://...). This can be important since the (encrypted) content will not be picked up by any third-party filtering applications, so if you are relying on such an application for handling cookies or Javascript, https:// pages will bypass it.
Some advertisers (e.g. DoubleClick) have placed ads on secure webpages (e.g. with banks or online stockbrokers) so making this change will alert you to these and allow you to stop such connections.
For more details, please see the Dangers of HTTPS (http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=31087) thread.

hi, i was just at another site reading about keyboard shortcuts, i want to stop using my mouse completely and might unplug it for a week. anyway, i clicked an Opera link, at Neowin, thinking it would take me to a page to show some shortcuts, but it was a direct download and some shortcuts were installed in under a second. how do i uninstall them?.
this link below takes you to a page that has keyboard shortcuts, but not the one i downloaded. it is safe to go to. there's one with a very similar URL called MoreMail 7.5 for Opera 7.5. how can i find what i installed? i did a google search for the url, but nothing. and how can i uninstall it? thanks
here's the safe link to the page with the shortcuts.
http://my.opera.com/community/customize/setups/index.pl?show=keyboard
this is the link i clicked at Neowin thinking it would take me to the link above, but it installed the shortcuts. i wouldn't go there as i don't know which shortcuts they are.
hxxp://my.opera.com/customize/setups/setup.pl?id=1321&show=keyboard
i just had a look at Tools>Preferences>Advanced tab>Shortcuts and in the keyboard box it says Opera Standard, so do you think i might have downloaded something that was for an old version and it didn't install? even though it did say installing keyboard shotcuts with no errors when i pressed the link? i don't want them (:(
has anyone ever used these shortcuts at the link? are there any good ones? thanks.
