At first I thought it was Opera (without ads for one day :-[ )
-{ Quote: "Hope this is not one of those scams..." }- that worries me too.
Is there a link to where this news actually came from?

Great news for anyone interested in Opera as it is the ads which put me right off :(

Just looked at their site - 10 years online must be their celebration.

What is so special about Opera ?
Opera doesn't even come close to Firefox, concerning convenience, not even on first sight.
Opera isn't even freeware. I paid for MSIE6 too, a big disappointment.
Just try to convince me, why I should BUY Opera.

It's very secure.

They put a lot of work into the security of Opera, and there hasn't been any recent vulnerability found since the IDN Spoofing Exploit. (which affected all browsers)

Eldar

Not only is it very secure and it does also use a lot less resources then Firefox.
I also can have multiple tabs open at the same time without experiencing a crash on my system. :D

I really like the ease of use (once you know how to use it), bookmarks (drag & drop), Wand (to store your passwords) and the configurability.
What you don't need you can remove. 8)

Also there's no need to buy Opera, because you can use it for free (if you like the ads). Of course I bought it to have more space on my toolbar and because I want to support the development of this nice and stable browser. ;)

Using Opera right now, with the Occhi Blu theme ^_^

It feels much more solid than Firefox for some reason...

I have firefox and Opera, I wouldn't trade opera for ten firefoxes. Opera is more secure and is a lot more convenient to use, and tons more features without having to download a bunch of extensions

Thanks for the info Ailric and everyone.

Although I got a registered version that I paid few weeks ago I got another one for my other system.

Opera is very good and so is Firefox. I don't think there is such thing as a perfect browser.

;D

thanx for the info, having a key to remove ads i decided to try opera (having not installed fx yet). its ok but needs much tweaking. the main ui is great if u dont like ur browser hogging space. and installing/changing skins is soo easy. ill stay with fx but opera is alternative should i need it.

go here (http://my.opera.com/community/customize/) and click on most popular and it will take you awhile to look at all the different skins. when you see one you think you might like click on install and it will install so you can see if you like it. if you don't like it it ask's if you want to keep it, if not it will just remove it in a second and you can try another. after you have downloaded all of the skins you want you change the m very easily by clicking on tools on top of the Gui and then click on apperance and it displayes all of the skins you have downloaded and you can highlite the one you want to use . see screen shot

also on the bottom of the apperance panel you can change the color scheme also with the skins and the color scheme you have hundreds of different options.

-{ Quote: "I'm with you bigc. ;D" }-Do all websites display properly or would I still need IE for some?

bigc73542
August 30th, 2005, 09:23 PM
I have never found a web page that didn't seem to display properly with opera, I am sure that there must be some but I haven't found them.. But I do keep IE up to date and secured even though I don't use it. Windows uses IE as default for several task's so it pays to keep it updated.

The only time I use IE is for Windows Updates.
Opera should work for most websites.

The free reg code link worked great!Thank You for posting it Ailric.

Opera rules, loads in a jiff compared to bloated FF, runs like a dream, cache reading is lightning fast.

Great of them to offer this wonderful browser for free, it is truly a nice gesture which would make many followers.

how do you get your bookmarks on the toolbar? are they all your bookmarks, or your toolbar bookmarks? i looked at the toolbar options and it doesn't have a bookmark one ???

Kye-U
August 30th, 2005, 10:04 PM
Here's mine:

http://img385.imageshack.us/img385/7601/opera1cj.th.png (http://img385.imageshack.us/my.php?image=opera1cj.png)

To get your bookmarks on the toolbar, right click on the toolbar, click on customize, tick "Personal Bar" then click on OK.

Then go to Bookmarks and Manage Bookmarks. If you don't see any bookmarks, click in the white space in the left window pane. Then right-click on a bookmark and click on "Show in personal bar" ^_^

PS: The skin I'm using is Occhi Blu. (Here (http://my.opera.com/Kazu+Spara/skins), the first one, not the last one)

Everything is Permuted by Words (http://my.opera.com/Words/journal/53)

Browser speed comparisons (http://www.howtocreate.co.uk/browserSpeed.html#winspeed)

as for me, it seems opera might be faster but i dont rele care as i have dsl. opera is much better than IE of course, but im staying with firefox for its extensions.
