Has anyone tested this app? GRC.com (http://www.grc.com/x/news.exe?cmd=article&group=grc.security.software&item=109549&utag=)

-{ Quote: ""Security by Virtualization" is patented ground-breaking technology which is not an anti-virus, not a firewall not a sand-box, not an anti-spyware and does not ask the user any security questions. “We wanted to create a real, out of the box solution, one that would allow users to be secured, be free and manage less. This is what Security by Virtualization is all about”, explained Zak Dechovich, CEO of SecureOL. ”It passively terminates commercial espionage, Trojan horses, spywares, viruses, etc. in fact it makes them all irrelevant, while the organization doesn't lose its connectivity, productivity and reduces its TCO”" }-

Cool, I've not come across that one before. If I get some time, I'll load it up and take it for a test-drive. Thanks for the info, Ron.

It crashed my system. I installed it which went smooth but when I rebooted, I got the that cool blue screen. I ended up having to reformat. Don't know much about computers so it could have been my fault.

Veryyy interesting, if it's all TRUE of course. Maybe that's the MIRACLE I'm waiting for.

Upto now ShadowUser (and similar products) was closest to my dream of security.
I better wait and see how "Security by Virtualization" evolves.
It has to be BSOD-free of course ;D

I wouldn't try it without a backup. I hope some of the members here that have their systems set up with a good backup will give feedback.

Don't you worry. I'm not knowledgeable enough.
I can wait until it has been tested by qualified people.
I don't even use ShadowUser. I just read about it, nothing more than that.

Had a really really really quick look at it.

Its running as two users on your computer at once, being about to switch via the tray menu. It has an admin console.

Places 5 processes in the memory. Using ~20mb between them. (VM was allocated 320mb RAM). Lag doesnt seem to be great, but then again VM speed isnt as good as a regular computer.

No time to test atm, maybe later.

Mossad's probably got their hooks in it. >:(

Better to err on the side of caution and not use it.

Hi All,
I'm from SecureOL and have to say that
there is no Mossad, FBI, CIA and others stuff inside :)

Ask me if you have any questions about the tool here or
you can ask any question in SecureOL support forum:
http://cybermessageboard.xeran.com/secureol/index.php

In case of blue screen, I guess there was a AV, probably Norton ?
Some of Norton versions does not like addition file system filter drivers
attached. In any case you should not format your computer, simple
press ESC button on computer start up and VELite will not be loaded.

If it's a 'security' product from Israel chances are less than certain the Mossad doesn't have someone working on the inside of the company, IMHO.

Understand this is not a reflection upon you personally. ;)

A copy and paste directly from their forum:

Spyware inside products is the best way to loose clients.
Do you use Intel hardware or Microsoft products ? They
both have research centers in Israel and they are not alone.

You are welcome to try SecureOL products.

Yes, VELite use VE2 infrastructure that is the main SecureOL product. VELite is simplified version that designed for home users.

Welcome to Wilders by the way. :)

Have you done any testing on conflicts with other antivirus programs other than Norton?

Thank you :)
Yes, most AVs and FWs works fine. Of course,
we can not test all versions and all products,
but we are working on that. And we are working
to fix our conflict with Norton.

Anyway any comments and questions about VELite and
its design are welcome.

Sorry for bumping this thread up but since it has been a while since any more thoughts on this program have been exhanged by members on this board i wanted to inform myself some more on this security solution. For me ...a non-security guru or expert this product sounds very good to me but is it really? i haven't seen that much comments on this so i can't really say where i am getting into.

Another program sounded good (deepfreeze) but it has an major security issue and is basicly made useless by an argentinian cracker and i don't know if this has been fixed already but also the idea that certain things wouldn't work properly anymore regarding updating and instalments of new software doesn't sound good to me, however this program from secureol...VElite does sound good because it also has another approach.

Please guys share your thoughts on this? It would be nice to hear from you guys with expierence in the security field how you feel about this;)

VElite sounded like a good program to have for preventing as much as possible getting infected by all sorts of malware, turns out that when i uninstalled it and after this performing a ewido's full scan i got infected with 65.670 spyware infections!:o :o

http://img416.imageshack.us/img416/9413/screenhunter25jm.th.jpg (http://img416.imageshack.us/my.php?image=screenhunter25jm.jpg)

I did a full reformat the day before yesterday and did some additional software installments yesterday and started surfing the net yesterday afternoon.

The software installments that i did where the most common security programs we all use: Nod32, Ewido, Counterspy, Spybot, Spyware guard, Spyware blaster, Trojanhunter and some extra programs that are 100% spyware free.

The websites i visited where the sites i already frequently visit and that did not caused any infections.
The amount of infections as you can see can and correct me if i am wrong can not be caused by visiting for instance 1 to 10 websites.

I have a strong suspect and that is VElite from Secureol.com since this is the only program i allowed to install that i had no expierences with before.

The program itself doesn't work as well as it said it supposed to work, Video tutorials aren't available on their website and also when choosing to view a tutorial when installing the product you are directed to the introduction page of VElite that doesn't contain any video tutorials.

My overall expierence with this product is horrible and i can't believe that i recieve this many infections by visiting a handfull of websites that i don't regularly visit and to make things clear i did not visit any gambling or porn related websites. Even if this was the case when recieving this many infections my hard drive would be showing abnormal activity in such a way that it would look like i am downloading and installing new programs and it didn't, only thing i did install was VElite from Secureol.com and did offcourse did all kind of registry changes as when you install new programs.

I can't think of any other causes then VElite installing this inmense spyware plague and am glad that ewido cleaned it out big time!
Also when visiting the forum of Secureol.com you can see in a post overthere that they couldn't afford by their own statements a licence from microsoft and was in their point of view not neccessary and that the warning signs issued by MS upon installment should be ignored even though the warning display messages stated that continuing installing could cause incompalibility and stability problems.

This method of planting spyware infections is probably in their point of view the only way to afford paying for a license from MS...

Never again..never again

subzerox: Did you install a firewall (XP SP2 and/or a router counts) before going online? If not, it's very likely that you got a worm that downloaded more (and more.. and more..).

Yes i had zonealarm installed before connecting to the internet then i downloaded all the neccesary updates and SP2 from microsoft and after this i downloaded the additional security software.

Then i downloaded VElite and when i couldn't get it to work or view the video tutorials i uninstalled it and then when i did the scan i got that massive display of spyware infections, i believe i got infected with every single spyware that is out there if you look at the numbers.

Perhaps VElite disabled Zonealarm in such a manor that a worm could get acces to my system and planted such an amount of spyware.

I am very displeased with this program VElite and secureol.com's poor support...no video tutorials available even when they say there are and also their forum lacks of an suggestion section that you should really have when you are still in beta.

All indications of dealing with a poorly prepared company that might have a good product on their hands but don't have taken the time to think of an novice user friendly GUI and set up for a forum. And also some detailed explanation how you should set things up if you can't view the video tutorial.

Who knows over two years i might try again but now i downloaded the trial of shadowsurfer and it's simple to use as like eating cake.
And i will do some more research on this and if i am convinced this product can give me decent extra layer of defense i will buy their product simply because i know how to deal with it in contradiction with VElite that is still in their early stages of development.

But for now all i can say about VElite it's s u c k s big time!!!!

Thanks for the heads-up, subzerox. Once I'm done with a couple of projects I'm working on now I may put this on my test machine and see what happens. In the meantime, Shadowuser/Shadowsurfer is excellent from what I've seen of the user reports around here. You could also check out the VMWare Player with their browser appliance image (http://www.vmware.com/vmtn/vm/browserapp.html).. it's free, and I can't think of another company more reputable than VMWare for virtualization. It's just a little different in concept than Shadowsurfer.

I got the same type of alert today, as Ewido did found 800 + spywares on my computer, all related to BufferZone: But that was only false positives here - a nice festival I must say ;D (did submit it to Ewido networks to fix theses detections).

I guess that was the same with Secureol: Ewido does flag every virtual activeX compatibility CLSIDs as malware for now!

I too purchased a license for VE Lite and was surprised with how badly implemented the product is. I have done numerous spyware scans and have never infected the host machine while using VE Lite.

It is important to clean the VM everyonce in a while otherwise your tools will see the spyware but they would not be able to infect the host.

Cheers
