View Full Version : Sorry, have to go

FanJ
August 11th, 2005, 04:46 PM
Hi,

Due to personal reasons I have to go.
Personal reasons:
- personal reasons;
- a PC that I can't fix anymore, and I can't afford a new one.

I was here from (almost) day one; being part of the first mod-team.
Dear Paul, thanks for asking at that time !!!

Lots of things happened in all those years; lots of changes took place.

Being friends and helping each other was always the main goal.

I've tried to help; I failed many times.

I know that I have hurt many of you.
The only thing I can do, is: please accept my most sincere apologies for having done so.

I feel very depressed.
Depressed for lots of reasons.

There will be no FanJ anymore.
Well, FanJ stood for:
- Jan being a Fan of the Wilders board.
- "phonetic" it could be understood in some way in Dutch as "van Jan", which means "from Jan".

It hurts....

Maybe I'll be able to read from friends PC's.

Whether I'll return in some way on the Net, I don't know

What will happen to me, I really don't know

Please, to all of you:
Please take care of each other and yourself.
Please be as much friends as possible.

Thanks to all of you !!!!!

Most warmest regards from a sad and depressed,
Jan

I know (http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showpost.php?p=504156) you can get past this Jan, and I also hope that someone will give you another PC, so we can see you around more often than not.

Cheers

Gerard already said it all.
I can't help to suspect your PC problems are the least of your burdens now, am I right? That hurts me too, Jan. I've been there too and believe me, even if you can't (or don't want to?) see the light right now, please have faith and work on getting those clouds out of the way.
You're such a great spirit (online).
Wishing you all the best, keep your chin up!
Hope to see you around again :)

:'( When I started here, I told that I was blunt an rather to the point. Damn this makes the Wildman sad. This is one of the icons here at Wilders, an I hope that this situation is a short temporary one. I can very well identify with this, remember the Wildman was almost in the same situation.

I along with others I am sure wish you the best, an hope that some how we can hear from you again very soon.

Thanks

When I first started coming to Wilders, I saw this "FanJ" helping out all over the place.

Jan has helped me with some programs, general information, and just plain being an 'internet friend', over the past years. ;)

Jan, mate, I sincerely wish you can come back from that seeminly dark abyss you feel you are stumbling into, and I hope you realise that there are many, many friends out over ethernet that are rooting for you to prevail.

Nothing can convince me you intentionally "hurt" anybody, even though you may feel that, for I know your integrity would only allow the best intentions towards anyone else.

Failure is only a word that one bestows upon oneself, for they may think they failed, but YOU my friend are NO failure. Everything you have done has been of the utmost sincerity towards helping people here at Wilders, and if some 'advice' you may have given did not work for a particular problem, is only means just that, it did not work. NOT FAILURE, just simply in that case the 'solution' did not work for that particular instance. I do hope you can see the difference mate. :D

Life is by no means a guarantee for happiness, you are constantly evolving in every way during life, your being, your outlook and your attitude towards others reflect the true person.

YOU, my friend, have all the values we Aussies term to be "True Blue" [a true friend, which nothing can persuade me to believe different].

Jan, THANKS for everything you have personally advised/shown/told me over the past few years.

Cheers to my Dutch colleague. ;D

Sincerely TAS

Hi Jan,

Truly sorry to hear this. Hopefully this is only a "temporary" setback and you'll be back in the fold before too long. If not, then I sincerely wish you all the best....and I also want to thank you for the times that you have provided me with help in these forums....

Good luck

Jan i'm very sorry to hear of this ... :-\
Keep holding your head up high mate, you've shown over the years that you're a trooper so we both know you'll get through this! Any forum that loses a person as helpful and friendly as you is worse for it, but I've no doubt that we'll see you back, smilies and all in the near future when you sort out whatever you need to sort out.

So I hope that you manage to get things back on track soon, but if you have to go then I've no doubt we'll cross each others paths again in the near future :)

Take care my friend,
Wayne

Hi Jan

You know, getting the answer right was never the most important thing in the world....otherwise we'd all be in trouble.

Help has always been appreciated...unless it blew up my computer...come to think of it...I managed to blow up my computer all by myself this week, and I didn't need help from anyone to achieve it (this is a new comp I'm writing from you know) !

That said, I've seen a lot of friendly, good natured helpful posts from you...you did mention some other sorts of posts...somehow I must have missed them

Take care, and be well :)

Hi Jan,

I haven't had the opportunity to know you from the beginning, but had the chance to know you a little better through our PM's and posts.
Your help has always been appreciated and of course we can't know everything, so we do make mistakes from time to time. :-\

I'm sorry to hear you leave this place and I do hope you'll get a new PC.
Personal reasons come first place, so I really understand that very well.

Take good care of yourself & your family Jan, and don't feel too depressed.
If you need us, we'll be here whenever you want to drop by to say hello.

Thanks for the time we had together.

My warmest regards,

Eric ;)

Jan

It is very unfortunate that "you have to go"...

Since I've been a Wilders member, I have come to know a helpful, dedicated and truely good-natured FanJ, always trying to help others. Including myself, even if it was not possible to configure NOD32 to work with ADINF.LST.

I also have already travelled that path of depression that you mention you are on nowadays. It is not an esay one, However, it may be be one of internal self development and spiritual growing.

Just remember that the important thing is not how many times you fell flat, but the times you managed to stand up again, trying to cope with the hazards life brings to us all.

And if that post from you is a farewell message, then let me tell you there is no such thing for us, as you will certainly be in the hearts of Wilders members!...

Warmest regards

Rui

:'( Jan: I know I have already made a post in this thread but I felt compelled to make yet another. I think you know that you have made many a friend here at Wilders, an if you need or want to talk to any one of us we are all here. You can always PM us an I have no doubt that any an all will reply. It often helps to talk with others, an you never know some may have experienced or are experiencing what you currently face. I can say this for a fact being a military veteran. Enough of my being on the soap box. Take care an all the best is wished for you.

Thanks

This is indeed sad news to me as well. I do not know all that you have done before you retired. But I know of the things after when I joined.

I wish you well and hope that you will be able to come back.

I am so sad to read this post. Believe me I have followed your posts on Wilders and have been helped directly by your replies plus indirectly with your replies to others.

When I read the words 'depressed' I know how much this hurts and what it is like to be there at this very moment.
We may be miles apart but the effects are still the same.
A big hug from me Jan - goodness, to think I have never met or even chatted to you yet I can feel the sadness, believe me I do. If any words I could say to help I would help :'(

I know the computer situation is another aspect, I do hope that someone close to you will see the need.
I am tearful when I type this as you have been on this forum before I even knew about it. Take great care and remember even an 'unknown' member like me respects you greatly & feels the stress depression adds to your life.

You're so right: we're all family !!! :D

A little update:
I was finally able to put back an old backup-image (thanks Acronis TrueImage !). This time not using my USB-2 card (one of my problems) but through the usual USB-1 port on this old machine. LOL, it only took about 9 hours ;)

There are still several other problems.
One of them: I cannot use my SCSI Plextor CD-ROM player; not sure why.
The SCSI card is an extremely old one (alas no Adaptec).

I have been thinking about finally upgrading to XP.
In fact I bought the upgrade.
I have spend several hours talking with Microsoft.
The lady I talked with on the phone, is very nice and very helpful (thanks a lot!!!).
I have not yet decided whether in fact to upgrade.
First several hardware problems needs to be fixed.
Question still (as usual in those circumstances): is it worth to spend money on this machine. I don't have the money to buy a new machine.
It's far more cheaper to get new CD-ROM player and burner (non SCSI), or DVD.
And still: I am far and far more familiar with my W98SE OS.

I was happy that I could give the MS-support lady some hints.
And she gave me a link to Memtest. I didn't know about that tool and site.
The site: http://www.memtest.org
Memtest tests your hardware memory.
It takes several hours to do so.
You might like to let it run overnight while you're sleeping ;)
It can run again and again. Advised is to let it run at least 5 runs.
I did, and I was happy that I got no failures :)

Hugs and most warmest regards to all of you my dear friends !!!!!
Cheers, Jan.

:o Just some thoughts. As you may have gathered from the previous post, my old computer bit the dust. I was really down in the dumps as I live on a very limited income and had no way to buy another computer. Thanks to my wife, daughter and mother-in-law they purchased me another tower. Notice I do not say anything about a monitor (I am still using the old one). Notice I do not say anything about a new printer (using the daughter's old one). What I guess I am trying to get at is only the necessary item was replaced. You may get good results with only replacing the hard drive or other hardware and not the entire computer. If possible save a few duckets at a time, get the best professional advice you can and then do what you can. Again just my thoughts. A reconditioned machine may be another option. In this case I would only deal with a reputable computer repair entity.

I also do not like to see familiar individuals depart from here, it makes the Wildman sad when that happens. Look at the other threads about us trying to find out the status of various members here at Wilders.

Thanks
Wildman

Me too! Er.....operating a very old computer with a W98SE system until just two days ago.

I have waited a long time to replace her, but had my nephew build me a new and powerful machine (Well to me, it is powerful). It still was quite an expense even though we exhumed the disk drive and CD burner from the old machine, and placed them in the new machine.

I was finding the old machine to be slower than (h, e, w, toothpicks). However I was becoming adept at playing Free Cell while I waited for something to load. Now - that wait is gone.

What I have found with my old W98SE, is that it is sooooo outdated, that a new jump drive will not work on it - so some of my stuff still sits in the old computer waiting for me to figure out which DLL files are missing.

And I am now learning XP Prof. Just call me one of the computer illiterate please.

:P :P :P :P
