Hi everyone Just wondering how many are using Prevx Home or Prevx Pro and will you continue to use it!!

I'm currently using Prevx Home. I'm a newbie when it comes to these programs but I have used it in conjunction with PG paid and I tend to get reassurance as they both warn on similar things when I'm installing stuff. To be honest as I have only installed what I deem as trusted programs i.e other security programs I'm really only using them at present as learning tools to see what happens. This way I hope to recognise future warnings that I'm not expecting, as possibly suspicious.

I know some members such as Richrf had concerns about the Home edition phoning home but this seems to have settled down and Zone Alarm handles that siuation for me by just denying it and it's not a problem for me. I like it's GUI and it seems to do it's job very well but I've left everything at the default settings.

I have kept a close eye on the Online Armor thread and when this goes on general release I'm going to trial it as a possible replacement for Prevx because I'm keen on the idea of it giving me intelligent prompts on things that are safe or otherwise. Also Mike Nash seems to be really helpful from what I've read. I'm not experienced enough to deal with beta progs or things that are a bit buggy. I find both Prevx and PG are a bit scary in that it is very much a case of 'make your own decision' but so far so good. Might also try Prevx1 at some stage.

nope, for the simple reason that it would be overkill .. just too much of that stuff ..

and for the buffer overflow protection: buy amd64 processor and you don't have to worry about that anymore ;)

I am not currently using Prevx Home or Pro, although I have already tried both versions.

As I could see from your signature, it seems we both have applied to our systems very similar protection settings, as well as running security applications. In my case, switch NOD32 for KAV and ZA Pro for Outpost Pro, with the difference that I have no dedicated AT now - I had TDS-3 - nor WinPatrol.

When I tried Prevx Home and Pro I found that it significantly decreased my system performance. Also, at the very beginning of its configuration, constant popup warnings ended to be a little annoying, even considering that I like to be alerted and knowing of what is going on in my computer.

On the other hand, the fact of Prevx phoning home at the very beginning of the setup process quite irritated me, and this is another reason I dedided not to proceed with the installation process the last time I thought of giving it a new try. Not the mention the fact that, as you know, Prevx is constantly trying to phone home while runnning.

Also, I am niot quite happy with the evolution Prevx is going through with Prevx 1 beta, which seems not only to be designed to be more user friendly, but also going to rely in signatures too, as well as the tendency to be transformed into a suite. I understand that this is an attempt to increase Prevx market share, but I do not like very much neither suites nor "set it and forget it" applications.

With the protection settings I have, I wonder if Prevx Pro (not Prevx 1) wil provide me with a significant increase of protection, at least one which justifies paying the 20 Euros and the noticeable system slowdown. This, of course, considering also that I practice safe surfing and very seldom visit suspicious or potentially dangerous sites.

I use prevx1 beta and PG Free together and they work well together. I had to replace NAV 2005 though--too much resource usage when using prevx--I also use Spysweeper and Winpatrol. I replaced Nav 2005 with etrust and I also use NETVEDA FW. Click the mouse and the next webpage is there. I am going to replace etrust when I find an AV that uses low resources--still hunting. I really like Prevx it uses a lot less resources than Online Armor on this machine.

I agree here. Prevx1 is very light with resources. I had Prevx Pro and now turn to Prevx1. To be honest, I was one of the guys who didn't like the whole new signature approach and preferred a more more user intensive interface. They even claimed it to be more powerful than the Pro version.

How? I don't know, to be honest.

I would still prefer Prevx1 to offer the same level of user control like the Pro. But things do change for the better with the latest update.

The latest update 1.0.0.63 has added a new advanced option to monitor some of the protections. Also added a simple hostfile "phishing" protection configuration.

Overall, I think its a good start for more things to come.

One thing you'll notice straight away is that the program is so light, you can't even feel it.

Does Prevx1 still have that requirement to add comments to a new install. That was driving me nuts and I finally uninstalled it.

Yes. But I don't mind about that.

I didn't mind it at first, but beta testing and installing and uninstalling it got stupid. I "almost" didn't mind that even after 4 install's it still didn't remember it, but being still forced to enter comments really became a nuisance. I got to the point I'd type one letter. Finally I did an uninstall, as I am also running Safe'n'Sec and Online Armor, and they certainly were covering everything Prevx1 did without the nuisance.
