Ewido vs WinPatrol vs TH vs BOCLean

1. I know TrojanHunter is more comparable than BOClean than Ewido is. Or should I compare Ewido vs WinPatrol and TrojanHunter vs BOCLean?

However is there a big difference with their detection rates?

2. Does it make sense with the security programs I already have?

WinPatrol is a different type of software. This programs is more for prevention because alert you when a program wants to add him self to the startup list of windows, or some settings in IE, IE plugins, change on the programs that should open some file, service processes added, etc... It doesn't need signatures...

The others are pure Anti-Trojans or like we say now Anti-Malware because it catch more than just trojans...
All are very good! ewido also have a free version without its active guard and the BOclean doesn't have on-demand scanner...
You can also add the a-squared that is similar with ewido and also have a free version...

You have a very good security setup, but since TDS was discontinued, you can install a free version or buy one of the above AT to complement your protection...

I guess I will try Ewido even if TH seems a little bit more performant.

Regarding A² I just read a review which does not recommend the actual version of A² and that we should wait for a new release.

Those reviews are pretty dated, most anti-trojans have come along way since then.

The "attractive features" or a2 are present in its current version - the IDS system, in the upcoming 1.7 this has been further improved.

Ewido also has improved lots. That review tested a pre version 3.0. Ewido now is much quicker, has heuristics, more configurable and more improvements are planned (ie new guard and a new UI).

I've not experiance with trojan hunter, so couldnt tell you about it unfortunatly.

My reccomendation: Try all three of ewido, trojan hunter and a2. Not like any of them? Purchase BoClean, not like it - get a refund ;)

I am actually trying Ewido and TH on 2 different machines. Maybe I will give a run for a².

I run BOClean on my system. It runs very light, has a small footprint and uses very little resources. They do not have a on demand scanner but visit their web site to get the explanation as to why. I have found the program to be a set it and forget about it program. Very good. A2 has said that their on demand scanner is basically a gimick and the strenght of A2 is in IDS.

Unfortunately there is no trial version for BOClean. I will not then bought a program I cannot try.
After installing WinPatrol I realized that I do not need such program with the security programs I already owned.

I will check till the period of trial both ewido and TH.

Hi,

I have licensed copies of Ewido, BOClean, and TrojanHunter. Ever since I began using KAV for real-time protection, none of these ATs has ever detected anything that KAV hasn't detected first. However, every once in a while, Ewido's on-demand scanner will pick up some remnants of some malware that may have been partially installed on my machine or some tracking cookies. These are pretty benign, but it does give me some clues that some of the sites I had visited may have been up to no good.

Netting it all out: My preference would be Ewido.

Richrf, thanks very much for your feedback.

Trying Ewido since today and I am pretty happy with it. It even found a Trojan in a RAR file that KAV or TDS did not get. I guess just a heuristics issue as I tested the file with NAV and TH on another machine and they did find any threat.

I can't believe that review said Trojan Hunter is almost as good as TDS (let alone in the same league). My results from real world testing of stuff from usenet/warez (it's scary how many people use this crap and wonder why they get infected) have been poor for TH. Latest file tested is as follows:

ewido : infected
boclean : infected
TDS : infected
A2 : sorry, never have tried this one
Trojan Hunter : on demand (clean) and guard allowed file to run and infect my test machine

I have a license for TH but I don't even bother to scan with it anymore and have removed it from PC. I would buy Ewido or Boclean depending on how each runs on your system.

As there are $20 difference between Ewido and TH, I guess my best bet will be Ewido for the time being.

I think with KAV, Ewido, PG and WG I should remain safe.

I tested RegDefend, however with MS Antispyware & TeaTimer, it will do the same job. I think that MS and TT are already doing the same job. Except that TT is a little more reactive than MS. Then, I do not think it is necessary to add RegDefend.
And...even with 1Go of RAM and a P4 3E, my ressources are limited...

I know that a refund can be obtained for BOClean. But don't take my word for it ask around on this forum.Plus you only need one licence for up to 5 home computers.

Yea, yeah you've made yourself abundantly clear over and over again in various topic threads. In your mind TH sucks and ewido is all that - blah, blah. You're becoming redundant, and since ewido fans flock to these forums in droves, there isn't any need to try to build it up more while basting a competitor, especially when noone knows for sure if you're even telling the truth

Mr guest, if you are a happy Trojan Hunter user, thats great. I just think it is sad when a dedicated anti-trojan that I paid for can't identify a trojan file that almost every ANTIVIRUS at Jotti found infected. And this isn't the first time.

Come on guys there is no need to argue. This is not positive. Any soft is good if it pleases its user. If you are happy with they go with it.

That's what the average user does (including me), but that's not very professional.
A good security expert or a very knowledgeable user will always choose the right security softwares and above all the right combination of security softwares to keep it all in balance (strengths and weaknesses) in order to get an almost foolproof protection.
For these people it doesn't matter if software is free/paid, easy/difficult, nice/ugly, they look for other qualifications in softwares.
I don't think that many users are able to do this, including me.
Even when you get professional advice to install an almost foolproof security set, you still have to UNDERSTAND how the security set works or the software will play with you, not the other way.
