Alternate windows shell security risk?

Are alternate windows shells (such at Litestep, Black box, SharpE, etc.) possible security risks?

I've been playing around with some of them, but I'm not sure if they could be a risk or not.

As far as I can see, there's no more risk than your average windows system.
A different shell is a different executable, meaning that there may be different vulnerabilities. But as ling as they are not exposed, there,s no risk. Your regular explorer.exe must not be published to the internet (it may not act as a server), so it will not be accessible.

All other applications act just the same. Your browser and mail client are not affected (except for the looks perhaps). Just be ware of server applets that connect to the internet, but that's just like checking other apps that connect to the internet.
