i know for example windows xp is windows nt and windows server put together well something like that.

Windows 2000 = Windows NT 5.0, or simply Windows 5.0
Windows Me = Windows 9x 4.90, or simply Windows 4.90

(The version numbers were made in this way in order to unify Windows 9x product line with Windows NT product line so that future OS could be simply based on NT core, which was rebranded as "Windows Engine").

Windows XP = Windows (NT) 5.1
Windows Vista = Windows (NT) 6.0

throughout the installation process it reads code name longhorn untill when the desktop shows M $ managed to sequeze the name vista in.
1- it is still in its early beta
2-very nice. it works fine but not yet stable. many bugs. you encounter self restarts for no apparent reasons. its an XP new evolution for the future wirless tech. for sure its THE FUTURE of things to come.
3-it comes with drivers but not every. some XP drivers works on Vista.
4-many program wont work especially AVs. I managed to install NOD32

the only problem is i would have to format my pc and install the OS right???

and if u don't like iot u can uninstall it with no problem and stay with xp??

No don't install it on top of XP. either
1-Partition your hard drive if its already large in size. you need good partitioning program like partitionMagic
2-see if you can buy another HD, used for ex. from repair shop some like (6-10)Gb, Now computer off first>remove the existing HD>plug the 2nd>install Vista
3-Also you can slave the 2nd HD with the existing one and install vista to the slaved one. this is better coz you'll get a boot screen to boot to either XP or Vista

Chaos, stay away from this, it is a beta of the Windows version that will come after XP, there is no programs and such, drivers and pretty much everythnig is minimal and you have no virus protection, because there is none supporting it yet.

And I have an AMD 64-bit CPU too! ;)

But as Don said, its best to stay away from Longhorn for the time being.
