hello,

I have tried dilligently to follow all of the instructions to successfully use DS9 and OSS to set up and use multiple WinXP Home edition clones and copies. I have many issues.

I find that making a copy of 1st partion WinXP will swell or double the size of that partition (as seen when I lauch DS9). It's as if it makes a copy of itself to itself in addition to another partition. I only allocate 5 to 6 Gigabytes to each partion and this creates a problem on partition one.

After some more testing I have lost the ability to get OSS to see the 2nd copy partition. Or if I can reset the second partion, It boots that install but points to the working files of the 1st partition. Following previous threads, I cannot make the change for removing the line in *boot.ini* files on both partitions to be successful for me. Windows hangs on startup. I have used the nifty MBR tool diskette to clean the MBR reset (nice tool). I have deleted the Bootwiz files on both OS partitions.

If I uninstall DS9 or OSS and choose to install program from Acronis made CD; then I can't use my ps/2 keyboard to input the serial number to reinstall from the startup disk. If I reinstall DS9 cleanly from the main OS, OS selector does not show the 2nd partions as an option.

It really should be easier than this and unfortunately, I carry bad habits from years of using Norton ghost and Partition Magic.

Save me from me :)

TIA,

El Miguel

Hello El,

Thank you for choosing Acronis Partition and Disk Managing Software (http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/diskdirector/).

When you copy the operating system using Acronis OS Selector it copies the system to the same partition. You don't need any other partition for that.

Could you please create Acronis Report in the way described at Acronis Help Post (http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=55317) and send it to support@acronis.com indicating in the subject of the letter that you want to contact Ilya Toytman. If you cannot boot into Windows please create Acronis Report in the following way:

- Download Acronis Report utility from http://www.acronis.com/files/support/AcronisReport.exe;
- Run Acronis Report utility and select the "Create bootable floppy" option;
- Insert a blank floppy disk in the floppy drive and proceed with creating the bootable diskette;
- Boot the computer under consideration from this diskette and wait for report creation process to complete;

Please clarify in the letter what you wish to do (what is the final result you wish to achieve).

Thank you.

Hello Ilya,

Thank you for your response. If I understand correctly, I do not need to create a new partition to take advantage of a copy as featured using OSS. I will try that approach first, as it seems simple enough and should satisfy my need to set up multiple configurations.

Regards,

El Miguel (The Miguel)
