migrate easy boot problem

Aplologies if this has been asked before. I've made a bootable disk to allow me to copy my system disk to an external HDD via USB. Firstly, When I try to load the full version of Migrate it starts to load then reboots - leaving the monitor in an odd mode while locking the PC up. I can only copy via IDE using the standard version without usb drivers being loaded.
Do I need a usb device to be connected or should it boot ok anyway?

Secondly for backup , would I be better off with True image? That is, if I made an image of the system disk, would the image be usable as a stand alone disk?

I would say Yes, Ti can also Clone [Migrate].

Yes on the same system, making sure you Image all of the HDD [all Partitions], you would be able to restore the Image to any size of HDD [that is big enough] from which system the Image came.
