Hi

I am new to this Forum and am looking for Anti Spyware and Anti Trojan software.

I have a Pentium P4 running XP Pro S/P2
Currently installed software is:
Trend Micro Internet Security 2005
Spybot SD v1.4
Adaware SE Free version - v1.06

I have read a lot of good thongs about Spy sweeper.
Is this worthwhile anti trojan software ?
Will it add any value to my existing software above ?
I do not mind paying up to US $30 for effective software.

Thank you in advance
Derekp

Hi derekp,

Since you are looking for an anti-trojan, I would recommend that you try out the trial copy of Spy Sweeper and compare it to Ewido. I trialed both products and ended up preferring Ewido because I felt that Ewido had overall better coverage.

If you are looking at anti-spyware software, you might want to try out CounterSpy. I would say, based upon my experiences, CounterSpy may have a slight edge in coverage, but I believe it is very slight and I think what it will come down to is what runs better on your machine. Sometimes the AVs (in your case Trend-Micro) conflicts with an AT and AS.

I do believe that one of these products would add incremental security value to your system. I believe Ewido would add the most since it has very nice coverage of both trojans and spyware.

Hope this helps,
Rich

You could not do better than to buy BOClean. It covers the "normal" trojans, together with the ones that install spyware/adware/malware.

This should be in the privacy software forum.

SpySweeper is an anti-spyware app, not an anti-trojan.

Ewido is more of a anti-trojan than a anti-spyware app, but does better with spyware than SpySweeper does with trojans.

That being said, I run both SpySweeper 4 and BoClean.

I'd recommend ditching Trend Micro, picking up NOD32, BoClean and Spysweeper or running NOD32 and Ewido. Computer will run much better and you'll have better overall protection.
