BitDefender is good. You also have Dr Web's CureIt (http://download.drweb.com/win/) which is very handy to use on infected pc's with no connection, as it doesn't require installation, you simply doubleclick it. It can also be updated if you extract the downloaded file to it's own folder and download the add-ons missing from here (http://download.drweb.com/bases/?lng=en). :)

Install Safe'n'Sec, kill two birds with one stone.. Backend protection, and BitDefender full on-demand.

Can't beat it.

Im waiting for the new KAV 6.0. I dont really like 4.5 but people said its a good av still.

Ran a scan with CureIT and it didnt pick up anything, but seems like a good backup along with BDF.

Still post suggestions on backup scanners.

I use the online scanner from Panda ActiveScan (http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan), I trust these guys 100% - Only once did a worm manage to slip through, and it was detected the next day.

I have NOD32 and for backup AV scanners I use Dr. Web CureIT and the eScan MWAV toolkit (4.4.7). I also have Ewido and A2 free around for on-demand scans, I feel it is a pretty good setup and since the eScan toolkit uses the Kav engine and updates it is a very good backup scanner to have around.

I would say BitDefender Free would be a rather good free backup scanner.

I went with Bitdefender as well. BD has an annoying file BDSS.exe that sits there when BD is not running but relative to

Escan free (old one that cleans) - really slow scan for some reason. Something wrong with config I guess. Tried twice and gave up.

Antivir - nice small package, fast scan similar to BD, but download of new signatures on my cable modem was 5kbps.

Clamwin - slow scan and not too sure it has a pedigree yet.

So BD backsup my free Avast. I use freeramxp to free ram when I need it.

Ian

Follow-up: It seems I needed to set Standard Shield on Avast to Normal to give Escan more processing power. Took 30mins and found 2 instances of tool.win32.reboot that it has classed as not virus. Not sure whether to stay with BD or move to Escan?
