Avast is a good choice, but there is no harm in looking at a layered security approach, particularly if your surfing habits are not conservative.

For AntiVirus backup, you could use one of the on-line scanners (http://www.security-ops.eu.tt/) or Dr Web's CureIT (http://download.drweb.com/win/) as backups. The main advantage here is that nothing is installed to cause possible conflicts with Avast.

For Anti-trojan backup, why not try one of the free scanners, Ewido (www.ewido.net/en/) or a2. (http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/free/)

I mean a back up scanner to back up Avast. I use panda scan once a week but I was just wondering if I should use an on demand av for a back up.

Blackcat I already use an anti trojan scanner. Thanks for the online AV scanners. My surfing habits are as safe as I can be but my wife goes to silly sites with alot of popup. Plus she downloads things like games and what not from site I question.

Try to use the free versions of ewido and a2 to combat malware... ;)

Avast is a good AV. I, personally, would use a backup scanner just in case.

I run NOD32 on my system and I have 2 backup scanners (F-prot & Bitdefender).

For Malware/trojans..I run Ewido, AdAware, Spybot S&D, MS anti-spyware, and SpywareBlaster. All of which are free and keep my system clean.

avast should be fine for an AV but rele it depends on ur wifes surfing habits. what reason do u have to worry about ur wife getting a virus? if u rele need the protection switch ro KAV realtime or NOD32.

I installed avast! HE on the computer of my girlfriend, about one year ago, and never had a problem with it... ;)
So I think that your wife will not have too...

My wife goes to games sites like game hippo and downloads games.

I use Avast! with BitDefender as backup, BD has never found anything so Avast must be doing a good job. If your wife's surfing, downloading habits are worst than mine-you'll need to have a serious talk with the wife :D

You should be totally fine with AVAST! The only one I trust. Have not gotten infected with viruses or worms since I started using it.
