Whenever I look at running programs in W98SE I find that smc is reported as 'not responding' but it seems to be working ok. Is there some reason for this?

Which version of Sygate are you using?

If you are using the latest 5.6, I would recommend that you uninstall that and install the 5.5 build 2710 because 5.6 has been noted to have many bugs in the program. If you go to ftp.sygate.com you can go to the 'spf' directory and download the 5.5 build 2710 from there.

TVM - my version IS 5.6 - I'll go back to the earlier one as you suggest.
