Well thats the new strategy drweb uses to get clients from other av companies. They make a 50% discount for the first year and another one for the 2 year...that makes 1 year for free under the green proteccion ;D Seems pretty attractive to me, though im beta testing vba32 -i love it- Well here´s the email i got:

Change for the green!» — Dr.Web anti-virus for free for 1 year!

Moscow, July 4th, 2005
Doctor Web, Ltd. launches today a long-term program "Change for the green!" for users of other anti-virus products wishing to migrate to Dr.Web anti-virus.
Legal users of other anti-virus programs, the term of licenses of which is still valid or expired no more than 31 days ago, can purchase a one-year license for the Dr.Web anti-virus with a 50% discount off the current price. Next year, such user will be offered another 50% discount for renewing the license with Dr.Web!

A two-year Dr.Web license can be purchased at the cost of one-year license, i.e. the whole year of subscription and technical support will be free of charge!

To receive a discount, users must send either a paper license for another anti-virus (scanned copy or the original), or a key file, or an e-mail message confirming the purchase of e-license for another anti-virus program.

A migration with a discount is offered for a similar Dr.Web solution and for the same quantity of protected objects indicated in the license for another anti-virus. When purchasing a license for additional quantity of protected objects, exceeding the number stated in the license for another anti-virus, they will cost as usual and the total number of them is not taken into account.

Users of OEM versions of other anti-virus prducts cannot migrate to Dr.Web under the above conditions

Bye 8)

Would have been a better timing if the GUI and other upgrade 4.33 or maybe 5.0 have been implemented before releasing this offer. ;)

Send them a mail: support (at) drweb.com, where you tell them in polite & curtious manor that you think this stinks!! ;) ;D and that you would appreciate it, if what you hope to be a longterm relationship, would start in a more positive way. :)

Or maybe:sales (at) drweb.com, is better.

@Labrie- Many thanks for the tip!

@All- To grab DrWeb's offer, go HERE (http://buy.drweb.com/togreen/).

I am pleased to see that DrWeb is starting to be more aggressive in selling.

Maybe current sales are not going too well or it's a preemptive strike against VBA32 and Microsoft's up and coming AV!

This is the answer I received regarding my question about a 50% discount for licensed users of Dr. Web.

Dear Putin,
as you probably know, Dr.Web is the oldest Russian av-program. Up till late 90s, we were the leading program on the av-market of Russia holding around 85% of it. Then, due to old uneffective management we have lost all the markets, not only in Russia, but abroda also. Two years ago we have changed the directors and began better development of our company. The situation is very tuff for us today, as being technologically oe of thebest av in the world, we have lost our positions in the yes of users, which is now dramatically improving - enough to say, that this year our sales increased by 7 times!
This is happening in the condition when our main competitor in Russia - AVP (Kaspersky lab) which holds now, as they asy 90% of the market, has a migration discount of 50% introduced more than a year ago. We cannot but respond to such unfriendly actions, asls.
As to our devoted users. We are no preparing a loyalty program for our users where the discount will depend upon how many years a user stays with us.
Believe, we had to introduce this migration discount to answer to such unfriendly actions of KAV and Panda.

I understand their action better now!!!!

;) Putin

@ Putin- VERY interesting information. Thank you very much for sharing it.

IMHO, DrWeb has made a wise move in offering discounts, but I fear they still have much to learn about marketing.

Although KAV is unquestionably a superb AV, I fully believe that their support forum, plus their willingness to personally interface with their customers, are significant reasons for the size and loyalty of their customer base. Ditto for NOD32.

DrWeb's folks, on the other hand, seem almost reclusive or xenophobic about participating here at Wilders, or CastleCops, GSF, etc. Their own forum is inept, & lacks the likes of Blackspear or Happy Bytes to enhance customer satisfaction, friendliness, & support.

In short, methinks the good Doctor needs a better bedside manner.

My friend grabbed the deal for a 50% discount...
7/3/2005 Applied for *Green* discount coupon at DrWeb's website
7/5/2005 Received coupon from DrWeb via email
7/5/2005 Used Visa credit card to pay $32.18 for 2-year license at element5. (A 1 year license costs $33 at regular price, so a 2-year license for $32.18 is a grrrreat price!)
7/6/2005 Received key from DrWeb. Copied key into his computer's DRW file. DRW is now up & running, with up-to-date sigs, with a 2 year license.

He is well satisfied. It went very smoothly. 8)

Dr.Web... very good AV that should not be overlooked. It might not be one of the prettiest to look at, but it's certainly one of the best AV out there IME.

They have only just started back to-day after their long New Year break.

At the present time their policy is only to offer 2 year licenses to new Dr Web Home user customers.

That's true. We must be here and there. Happy customers make up a good product, not just developers. Software must work smoothly, support must answer instantly, definitions must be updated as soon as possible.

But let me slightly correct you. We are not xenophobic about participating at Wilders and other places. We are trying to do our best, but tree is not growing in a night. It takes time to implement features, fix bugs, learn new support people, write to forums. We are listening to your opinions and appreciate your support. We hope you like to use Dr.Web as much as we love to develop it.

Your presence here at Wilders, from time to time, is a splendid example of that fact. Those improvements have been publicized & applauded in these forums.

I have been, & remain, an ardent supporter & user of DrWeb.

I have to agree with the previous 4 posts. DrWEB 4.33 has been a great step ahead in performance and detection all around and customer support is showing strides in the right direction. It's also great to know the spidey support folks are keeping an eye on Wilders and popping in to keep us updated...:o ;D
