I was wondering if any of you would consider using BlackICE PC Protection 3.6 for Intrusion detection alone--and shutting off its other features so that it won't conflict
with your main firewall (in my case: Look n'Stop 2.05p2)--
any thoughts--or other recommendations for IPS, IDS and combined IPS/IDS?

I didn't know you could shut off the firewall aspect of BI.. I'm not remembering the settings that well, but I know you can turn off the app protection stuff. But the firewall might just run all the time, in which case it might not be the best thing to run it concurrently with another firewall. I think at least one other person here has run it with Outpost Pro though.
When I used it, BI seemed pretty nice on it's own...

i remember there was one forum member who runs the IDS/IPS of Blackice alongside Outpost Pro, so i would say its possible. however idk if Blackice would be that necessary is run alongside a firewall like outpost or LnS, but u could give it a try. let us know if its works for u.
