Hi guys,
I thought i'd add files (like io.sys,autoexec.bat etc to the C:\ drive on my comp so that i could get TDS to keep an eye on them as part of the crc test. (i got tierd of seeing :this file doesn't exist,i also have regwatcher keeping an eye out aswell).

I made them read only and hidden,(added security) but TDS still said they didn't exist untill i made them unhidden.

Is this ok? i mean for TDS (have i giot a prob?) and also in general?.

Thanks

Tonyjl

Hi Tony,

First some personal stuff:
It's getting a bit late here in my time-zone, and (LOL) it's my birthday ;) .
I might not have time on the following days to get deeper at it; sorry in that case.

OK ;)

Not much wrong at your system.
Of course it is your own choice if you want to make files hidden and read-only, if they are not already made that way by default.

Long, long ago I wrote a very little bit about it with respect to the CRC32-test of TDS-3.

I definitely like the CRC32-test of TDS-3, not any doubt about that !

But, as you noticed, in some circumstances it might fail.
I myself consider that not as a big problem.

Two examples on my (Dutch) W98SE box:

1.
C:\AutoExec.bat
Archive on my system; attr: a
The CRC32-test has no problem with it.

2.
C:\WINDOWS\desktop.ini
Read-only and hidden on my system; attr: rh
Yes, the CRC32-test has here a problem:
[CRC32] File doesn't exist: C:\WINDOWS\desktop.ini
