Maybe something to do with this thread at Kaspersky Support Forum (http://forum.kaspersky.com/index.php?showtopic=1516)?
This thread is related to: This link at Security Focus: Kaspersky Anti-Virus Klif.Sys Privilege Escalation Vulnerability (http://www.securityfocus.com/bid/13878)

A little confusing, as they have the same download package under 2 different names!
But you can install either "The Latest Version" or "MP3" over v.5.0.325.

So far as memory goes, the new version swaps out, just like the last two. total active memory for the two services is about 4mb. Process explorer shows about 140mb total virtual size, about the same as the last version of KAV. Compared to what some of the other popular AV's do to your system, KAV is hardly a problem.
