Is ewidoctrl.exe process necessary to run

I'm only using the free ewido as a on-demand scanner, why ewidoctrl.exe process 2.4Mb runs.Is it necessary. Thanks

It is not needed, I disabled the service right after I installed it and rebooted. I can update, right click scan and do regular on-demand scans fine. The only thing I have noticed is that sometimes after an update it will say “ewidoctrl.exe not running but needed” however I have seen no drawbacks with it being disabled.
