Priority Levels

Is there a way that you can change the default priority levels of a program that autostarts on bootup in order not to have to wait till system is booted and use task manager to manually adjust them?

Hi puff-m-d, this could be what you're looking for. I havn't tried it, but i have used his Attribute Changer App only today, and it's Very good.

StartRight will manage the execution of programs that are automatically started by the operating system at logon time. Instead of executing many programs at once (causing your OS to spit and sputter and attack your hard drive), StartRight will give the OS time to execute the program before running the next program. The OS should become much more responsive almost imediately after logon.

Those of you that have a dozen system tray programs (and you know who you are), might want to give this a try.

All of the above posts give me a bit to look over. I am going to take a few days to look over what has been posted and report back my results.

In the meantime, if anyone else has any suggestions, they will be more than welcome.

Wintasks Pro 5 (http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintaskspro/features/index.html) has some neat capabilities ... I don't know if the priority levels will stick, but I think they might ... also has 5 pre-sets you can set for processes etc.

I'll have to finally check this out myself. :)

You might also check out ProcessTamer (http://www.donationcoder.com/Software/Mouser/proctamer/). Version 2 will let you assign specific CPU priorities to specific processes when they start, but the default function may just do what you want. RegRun also has some functions for changing or delaying startup items.

this program says it will do "Priority: Specifies the priority level for the application you run. For most applications, you should select the Normal Priority. However, if you have a very critical application that need a better priority over the other applications, you can try to run it with high priority.
