View Full Version : NOD32 won't extract/install

Hi
I originally had a five-user license. I succesfully installed NOD32 on 5 different computers.
I just purchased an additional 2 user license. But when I try to install NOD32 on one particular computer nothing happens. I run the program, confirm that I want to proceed when I see the 'unknown publisher' warning. But then nothing?
On every other install it normally starts to extract the files and then install. But this time nothing happens, no file extraction, install or even error message.
Could anyone give me any idea of what might be causing this problem or how I might set about tracking down the cause?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions
Lee

Hi Lee, welcome to Wilders.
Do the following files exist?
C Drive> Windows> Temp
C Drive> Documents and Settings> (User Name) XXXXXX> Local Settings> Temp
Cheers ;D

What happens after you run the installer and click the Extract button? Do you get any error message (e.g CRC checksum error) ?

I don't get as far as that. After I 'run' the program I see the egg-timer for a couple of seconds. Then nothing.
I dont see the screen which would initialise the extraction of the files.

A little more background although I am not sure if it will help.
The only difference with this computer (from the others where I had no problem) is that this one used to have Norton AV installed. Just before trying to install NOD32 I uninstalled Norton and re-booted. Something I am now beginning to regret as I now have no AV installed.
The only other thought I have is that after I had purchased the 2 addn licenses and received the username/password I used the file which I had downloaded for the original 5 license purchase. I figured this wouldn't be a problem because it would ask me for the new username/password during install. When it failed the first time I decided to download the program again just in case the extractor somehow kept a count on extracts. Still no joy with the new file.
I have never experienced anything quite like this. I hope someone has some bright ideas !!

Isn't it possible for you to transfer the installation file on a usb key or cd from another machine and run it?

Can you please try running the Norton removal tool found here. (http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nav.nsf/docid/2001092114452606)
Next run a registry cleaner such as Regseeker, (http://www.hoverdesk.net/freeware.htm) and delete everything it finds.
Next try another reinstall of Nod32.
Let us know how you go.
Cheers ;D

Yes!!!
Thanks to all who helped. In the end I tried installing the program from a downloaded file on another computer (peer to peer network).
It extracted straight away and installed OK.
None of this make much sense - but hey it's installed that's what matters.
Thanks again
