Not the company sponsored or clearly biased comparisons that I see out there. By independent, I mean that they have no interest at all in who wins or to test only the areas a certain AV will do well in. Totally unbiased tests are rare to find and the AV areana is no exception.

http://www.av-comparatives.org/ is well known around here and not biased to any product.

Am I reading that right, that they used AV versions as of Febuary 2003?

"VTC test "2004-07" was started in June 2003, with tesbeds frozen as known
on December 31, 2003 and products submitted in February 2003"

Is this so "independent"? Isn't it owned by Sophos?¨

Try going here: http://www.all-nettools.com/toolbox and do a SmartWhois look-up on "www.virusbtn.com".

Alright. You enlightened me. Thanks :)

I always suspected that Sophos had something to do with VB....but I only thought that maybe Sophos was sponsoring VB.

Thanks again :)

But then again every company has to be owned by someone.

VirusBulletin is 'independent'; I do not see that Sophos gets publicity or results in favour of Sophos in VirusBulletin.
Everyone has its own opinion (http://66.102.9.104/search?q=cache:CCFwtIQg95sJ:agn-www.informatik.uni-hamburg.de/vtc/en00x8.htm+%22+the+technical+Virus+magazine+%22Virus+Bulletin%22+is+co-owned+by+Dr.+Jan+Hruska,+who+is+also+co-owner+of+Sophos%22&hl=de%20target=nw) .
Just because they are in the same building and share some infrastructures, it does not mean that they are not independent.

Now I'm confused - but I'll take IBK's word for it because he's an expert :)
