8) Nat: I used to smoke 2 an 1/2 packs a day, an I did this for almost 40 years. I quit cold turkey about 9 years ago. The first day, I'd of smoked the exhaust off the tail pipe of an 18 wheeler, so I won't lie an say it's going to be easy. I will say however that the effort has been well worth it. I once again have a sense of smell. I once again have a sense of taste. You also won't believe how bad they smell, after you have quit for a while. I now have to walk away from the smell of others smoking, it smells just awful. I tell myself, "I can't believe that I put those things in my mouth". I think you know that there are quiet a few people pulling for you, an I most definably am one of them. It may help, "I sucked on Jolly Rancher Cinnamon fire candy every time I had the urge, after a while I didn't eat to many of them either, even though those I really really do like".
Thanks

Brad.....I Will !
And you know what! I think you should give it another try.
Just because you didn't stick to it the first time...doesn't make you a failure, like some people like to call it.
It takes alot of people a few times actually, until they're truly "through" with it...and never smoke again ! :)

I'm not saying that she was bad just smelly. Sorry But it is true . very one in my family smokes or use to. I know that you can can really smell Some things can get me. I know that she is use to use a lot of gum and stuff to cover up the bad smell. I never smoked but I know that if it wasn't for the smell I would cuz the people who smoke or thin I would do it to be thin LOL

I sure am lucky that my allergies do not permit me to go anywhere near a cigarette. I see people smoke everyday, and my allergies do not permit me to go near them (I start sneezing due to the smell, sometimes its very bad sneezing). So its quite assured that I wont be able to smoke. ;)

I am glad that you made it Nat!! You want to know how people made it. Well I think that WHY I did it is probably the strangest story. I started smoking when I was 12, about 6 a day. By the time I was 17 I smoked a pack a day, and by 18 a pack and a half a day. When I quit, cigarettes were $7.50 a pack here in Canada, and this was in 1990 :o . I was working an hour a day just to smoke.
Now, I was heavy as a teen, but by the time I was 18 I was about 220 lbs (I'm 5'7).
(Now get ready for the funny part)
My hormones were just raging and I knew that I had to get into shape to help my cause. So I started exericising (weightlifting, running), and I got into very good physical shape. Not enough I thought. So I needed some new threads. How do I pay for these............lets see......I really like smoking(I really did)....but I really like women too....OK quit smoking, I will smell better too(might help the plan I thought). So I quit that day and never looked back through my own stubborness, and a fondness for the ladies. Told you it was a strange reason to quit. Who knows, maybe one day if I become impotent I may take it back up...LOL :P

I wish I never started when I was a teenager. ::)
It's hard to quit, although smoking doesn't give you anything at all
and it costs a lot of money.
I really hope to stop smoking one day.
Not only for my health, but also for my wife & sons.
I don't smoke inside the house. That really isn't allowed. :)
So Nat, I know how hard it can be, having quitted several times
without actually succeeding. :-\
Best of luck to you to stop smoking forever. :-*

:) Way to go Nat: As I told you in my previous post, I smoked for a long time. I also was one of those who said "Isn't a damn person on this earth who can tell me what I should an should not do". I agree that quiting was properly one of the hardest things I have ever done. I will tell you however that you have the key ingredient to succeeded, that is the simple desire to want to quit. I along with others believe that smoking was learned, an what we learn we can unlearn. It also helps if you have something you can focus on besides smoking when the urge hits. Needless to say, I urge all who have developed this nasty habit to quit, but they have to want to do so, baring that nothing will help. It also helps to remember that we ex smokers can never ever even take one little puff ever again. My eldest grandson had a good idea, he said that if one wanted to start they should take the tobacco out of the cigarette an substitute it with dog droppings "smells about the same". Well enough of me on my soap box.
Thanks
Wildman
