Well, not quite 2 months into th season and my Toronto Blue Jays are looking pretty good. 8)

They put a butt kicking to the World Champs(Boston Red Sox) in their last 3 game series(winning all 3) ending yesterday. ;) ;D

It's been a long painful road for us Jay's fans since all the glory of back to back championships some 12 years ago but hopefully we are finally on the road back to being competitive and maybe, possibly, get a birth in the playoffs this year. There is still a long long way to go but one can only hope. ;D

Burnt in our memorys is Tom Cheeks call in the sixth game in the 1993 World Series when Joe Carter hit that homer in the 9th inning against Philaphedia Phillies closer Mitch Williams(the wild thing) to give them the win and their second World Series win in a row. 8)

Tom said it all when he announced "Touch em all Joe, you'll never hit a bigger home run in your life".

Still gives me goosebumps just thinking about it. ;) ;D

Go Jays Go!

Yes, what's going on there Ron? I thought they would play much better than that. I,ve always liked Houston. Did u see this,

Clemons was magnificent in his short time with the Jays winning 2 consecutive Cy Youngs. ;) ;D

Interesting. Why not?
The Astros started slow last year but this year seems far worse.

Low salaries overall in Houston. They just won't part with any money.

Clements is getting up there in age for a baseball player. Everyone was very disappointed last year when they couldn't get over the hump knowing this was the best chance they might ever have of getting to the World Series.

@ Ron,

We have that problem here too Ron as for the money spent on the team. It's now up to 70 million from 50 last year but that's pocket change compared to the Yankees at 200 million or better. :o

U just have to hope all the stars line up and with a little luck everything will fall into place. ;)

i've always like the coliseum! they made a few changes for the raiders that weren't necessarily good for baseball, but i think it's still a great park. hard to compete with that other team across the bay though. that sbc park....now that's nice! i think one of the biggest drawbacks to going to see a game is dealing with the rif-raf outside. oakland has allot of culture and nice places to visit, but it's not exactly a place i wanna hang around when the sun goes down. i'm sure there are many stadiums like that tho!

lol, i could imagine! :lurking: kinda sad, but that's why i don't go to too many games anymore. when i was a kid, my dad had season tickets for 4 years, which he got for free from work. we went to so many games, it felt like the coliseum was a second home to me. it was between '88-'91 too. great years for the a's. allstar games, world series, playoffs....just a real good time. i'm sure all the bad stuff i see going on around the coliseum was there when i was a kid, but i never really noticed until i got older i guess. :-\

http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/nationworld/2002329328_babe11.html

The price Siegel paid was nearly double the presale estimate for the Dec. 26, 1919, contract, a five-page typed document signed by owners Harry Frazee of the Red Sox and Jacob Ruppert of the Yankees. The contract recorded the $100,000 sale of Ruth to the Yankees, a transaction that altered baseball history.

He sat there and denied every using steroids and today..... there it is. ::)

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/clubhouse?team=kan

19 game losing streak and quickly closing in on the record held by Baltimore.

I used to always look forward to the Blue Jays playing there as they had one of the prettiest ball parks in the majors IMHO.

Growing up, George Brett was one of my favourite players. How could this storied franchise fall so far....

As Leo said, "It isn't over until........." This game was full of new records and memorable moments. Out of pitchers and position players, the Astros battled on against a really tough team. Facing the Braves in the opening series was a major concern. Toward the end of the game, I think the Astros were ready to activate Nolan Ryan from the stands if necessary. The season to date was recapped in this one game.

Still think this series goes 6, maybe even 7. Houston is a tough home team, and should win 2 of the next 3 at home. Oswalt has yet to pitch, and the 'Stros will probably go with a shorter rotation this series, meaning that the big 3 (Clemens, Oswalt and Pettite) would still all be going again if it goes 7. And I actually wouldn't be surprised if Houston wins all 3 at home, or at least wins 2 of 3 and maybe wins game 6 in Chicago to force a game 7. About the only thing that would surprise me is a sweep!

And I also agree with those saying that it's nice to see two teams not all that familiar to the post season and especially the World Series in it for a change.....

Well, the game was a record for a World Series game - 5+ hours. Both teams had starting pitchers warming up at the end.
Sox win 7 - 5 with the winning run a homer by Geoff Blum, a former Astro. :(
It looked good for the Astros for the first 4 innings and then the wheels fell off - Chicago scored 5 in the 5th!
Overall the Astros stranded 15 on the bases.

Casey At The Bat
by Ernest L. Thayer

The outlook wasn't brilliant for the Mudville nine that day,
The score stood four to two, with but one inning more to play.

And then when Cooney died at first, and Barrows did the same,
A pall-like silence fell upon the patrons of the game.

A straggling few got up to go in deep despair.
The rest clung to that hope which springs eternal in the human breast.
They thought, "if only Casey could but get a whack at that.
We'd put up even money now, with Casey at the bat."

But Flynn preceded Casey, as did also Jimmy Blake;
and the former was a hoodoo, while the latter was a cake.

So upon that stricken multitude, grim melancholy sat;
for there seemed but little chance of Casey getting to the bat.

But Flynn let drive a single, to the wonderment of all.
And Blake, the much despised, tore the cover off the ball.

And when the dust had lifted,
and men saw what had occurred,
there was Jimmy safe at second and Flynn a-hugging third.

Then from five thousand throats and more there rose a lusty yell;
it rumbled through the valley, it rattled in the dell;

it pounded through on the mountain and recoiled upon the flat;
for Casey, mighty Casey, was advancing to the bat.

There was ease in Casey's manner as he stepped into his place,
there was pride in Casey's bearing and a smile lit Casey's face.

And when, responding to the cheers, he lightly doffed his hat,
no stranger in the crowd could doubt t'was Casey at the bat.

Ten thousand eyes were on him as he rubbed his hands with dirt.
Five thousand tongues applauded when he wiped them on his shirt.

Then, while the writhing pitcher ground the ball into his hip,
defiance flashed in Casey's eye, a sneer curled Casey's lip.

And now the leather-covered sphere came hurtling through the air,
and Casey stood a-watching it in haughty grandeur there.

Close by the sturdy batsman the ball unheeded sped --
"That ain't my style," said Casey.

"Strike one!" the umpire said.
From the benches, black with people, there went up a muffled roar,
like the beating of the storm waves on a stern and distant shore.

"Kill him! Kill the umpire!" shouted someone on the stand,
and it's likely they'd have killed him had not Casey raised his hand.

With a smile of Christian charity, great Casey's visage shone,
he stilled the rising tumult, he bade the game go on.

He signaled to the pitcher, and once more the dun sphere flew,
but Casey still ignored it, and the umpire said, "Strike two!"

"Fraud!" cried the maddened thousands, and echo answered "Fraud!"
But one scornful look from Casey and the audience was awed.

They saw his face grow stern and cold, they saw his muscles strain,
and they knew that Casey wouldn't let that ball go by again.

The sneer has fled from Casey's lip, the teeth are clenched in hate.
He pounds, with cruel violence, his bat upon the plate.

And now the pitcher holds the ball, and now he lets it go,
and now the air is shattered by the force of Casey's blow.

Oh, somewhere in this favored land the sun is shining bright.
The band is playing somewhere, and somewhere hearts are light.
And, somewhere men are laughing, and little children shout,

but there is no joy in Mudville --
mighty Casey has struck out.

The Toronto Blue Jays may once again be looking to the Arizona Diamondbacks for a slugger.

According to ESPN's Peter Gammons, the Diamondbacks and Blue Jays are on the verge of completing a trade that would send Troy Glaus and a prospect to Toronto in exchange for pitcher Miguel Batista and second baseman Orlando Hudson.

No sure about this one.... They certainly need another bat but at the price of a gold glover(Orlando Hudson)? ???

Plus now there is a log jam at third and first base. JP must have something else in mind to remedy that. :-\

Mommy bear and Daddy bear were in divorce court.

The judge looked down and asked the Baby Bear, "So Baby Bear, do you want to live with Daddy Bear?"

"Oh, no," Baby Bear replied, "I don't want to live with Daddy Bear. He beat me."

"Well then, you should live with Mommy Bear," answered the judge.

"On, no, I don't want to live with Mommy Bear. She beat me."

"Well then, Baby Bear, who do you want to live with?"

Baby Bear said, "I want to live with the Chicago Cubs. They don't beat anybody!"
