a lil help please

Hi

Have imaged C: onto a separate partition on the same HDD (D:), when I want to restore the image, computer restarts and says ATA 1 failed to load
I am completely computer ignorant and would appreciate some advise. I'm told this is a SATA hard drive

Please boot from bootable CD and choose "Restore Image" wizard. Others more qualified will no doubt answer your specific question, but I have an observation - better to backup the image to a different HDD, as if the drive fails you will risk losing the original AND the backup image.
