Hi,

RAV used to be a very good Antivirus but I think they sold the AV part to microsoft.

They still release defs at http://www.ravantivirus.com/pages/dldupdate.php?type=Daily and I think extendia antivirus http://www.extendiaavk.com/eXtendiaAVK.htm which use an older version of AVK use it in there dual engine scanner (RAV and KAV)

I notice somtimes updates are not released so often these days and according to their website they only updated defs today to protect against Sober worm.

Cheers

Jlo

I doubt eXtendia AVK still gets updates for RAV.....some time ago, AVK couldn't get RAV updates.

It WAS one of the better AV's, but it was taken over by Microsoft and RAV AV was stopped in December, 2003. So it is no longer a standalone AV.

Microsoft are due to release their own AV based upon the RAV engine sometime in the near future.

But RAV still lives on as one of the engines in eXtendia Antivirus Pro, but as Firecat has mentioned whether definition updates for the RAV engine are still available :-\

Anti-Virus Database UPDATES are still available on www.ravantivirus.com and u can also dowload the latest version from a multitude of sites. Is it worth it to add it to my security arsenal as "on demand scanner"?

The RAV on-line scanner is among the fastest out there, it both detects and cleans and it updates regularly though infrequently, upates may be weeks apart rather than days. The latest update on 4 May shows 121,824 records.

Lol, wacko Romanians :P (no offence)
Anyway, the detection was good in the past was it? They seem to slip down now (since M$ bought them) though...

GeCAD have commitments to issue signiture updates till sometime in 2007, AFAIK.

Signitures are usually only released when theres a "outbreak" now. Most likely to save them money, on a project that "isnt theres".
