Help with NTUSER.DAT cleaning

Hey

Thx again for keeping this great site up. I need some help regarding cleaning/editing the NTUSER.DAT file on my work laptop. I do have admin priv's on this machine. Based on what I could find, a program called "Evidence Eliminator" looks like the best option, but I can't really find confirmation in their info re; if this program will indeed clean the NTUSER.DAT file. Any info or direction you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

I would recommend RegdatXP (http://people.freenet.de/h.ulbrich/), which has the same functionality, instead of Evidence Eliminator.

Hi Analyst502,

You can also do additional manual editing of ntuser.dat after cleaning it with RegdatXP by following these instructions from the Help file:

"1) If you are on a WinNT/2K/XP/2K3 platform you may use ”Load File into Registry” to associate the file to a temporary sub key of HKU containing the file’s information. Regedit.exe allows you then to edit the newly created key and automatically saves the changes to the associated file in the same way as if you would edit any other registry file. The temporary sub key can be deleted by ”Unload File from Registry” or by rebooting the system. Note that you have to reopen the file if you want to view any changes via RegdatXP."

When you are finished, you can use something like Locked Files Wizard (http://noeld.com/programs.asp?cat=misc) to replace the existing ntuser.dat. As always, backup before playing with system files ;).

IMHO stay well away from EE.
The last time I had any thing to do with EE:
It possibly does some of the things it claims to.
Is associated with horrific spurious advertising.
Doesn't conform to Gutman standards for "elimination".
Adds 700 registry entries.

Many probably undoubtably better options free and pay available from the pros here.

what do you mean spurious advertising?!?!! EE "lifts the blackhead out of the pimple and scrubs the pore clean" before applying a protective layer of 0's and 1's to the surface! much better than `stomach's 35 passes. much, much better imo. Why,after using evidence eliminator I went from a 1.4mb Athlon processor to a whopping 2.4GB!!!

what the hell is a 1.4mB Athlon processor?
did you mean 1.4 gHz Athlon XP?
