View Full Version : RegDefend v.1.20 Startup Issue

Since updating RegDefend to the newest version, 1.20, I'm temporarily noticing a browser window title bar at startup with the words "RegDefend Unregistered...." as the title splasing across the top left of my desktop. Once RegDefend's "Registry Group" tab appears inside this particular window, it then disappears and the RegDefend icon can be found in the systray.
I am already registered and this did not occur with the previous version. Previously, I verified that RegDefend was loaded by locating its systray icon. (NOTE: I installed the newest version over the older version.)
Also, whenever I double click RegDefend's systray icon, a collapsed window (i.e., small title bar) appears at the top left of my desktop. Always have to click the maximize button to look inside the RegDefend window. Any reason for the extra step?
Despite these issues, it doesn't seem to have had an affect on the performance of RegDefend. Any feedback in this regard is appreciated.

jbarr,
Uninstall the older version first.

Thanks for the advice and link. I did not see this "uninstall older version first..." update warning on Ghost Security's website when I searched for the newest version of RegDefend. Should have joined this forum sooner ;)
Unfortunately, uninstalling and installing v.1.20 did not resolve my two issues. Even uninstalling a second time, restarting my computer and deleting the RegDefend folder didn't help. Although it somehow automatically remembered I was a registered member when I clicked on RegDefend's About link.
Any further suggestions anyone might have in this regard is appreciated. Thanks again!

I have the very same problem you describe of the "RegDefend Unregistered...." displaying at RegDefend startup.
Removing the old version before installing the new version did not correct.
My old version was a Registered Version anyway.
It seems to me if it is required that an older version be removed before a newer version be installed, the newer version should be "Blocked" from installing if it finds a older version installed.

It is nothing to be concerned with, it is just the RegDefend GUI appearing probably because you left the window maximized, and that restores the visibility of it, which it later hides.
I will try and work a "fix" in for this so you don't see the "unregistered" window on bootup. It says unregistered because it is only later once your key is checked that the "registered" version put into the window frame.

Thanks for the followup Jason. Reassuring to know that there's nothing corrupt in the installation of RegDefend v.1.20 itself. Might suggest that a warning (i.e., uninstall older version prior to installing newer one) be posted on your website's download page for those of us upgrading in the future.
Hope your efforts to find a fix for the startup splash "RegDefend Unregistered...." window are successful in keeping with RegDefend's motto, "Transparent protection for your PC;>)"
Is there a solution for the two steps required to open RegDefend's window via the systray icon? Again, any related assistance is appreciated.

My problem of "RegDefend Unregistered..." briefly appearing during startup on my desktop is now gone.
I uninstalled RegDefend and did several "Cold" restarts. Re-installed RegDefend v1.2 and the problem is gone.
As Jason and ranjor point out, uninstall the older version first before installing the new RegDefend v1.2

Glad you got your "RegDefend Unregistered...." issue resolved jimmie. Attempted to duplicate your efforts, but to no avail. Still receiving the splash screen at startup :-\
