Good Morning,
Could anybody recommend a small, freeware program that displays what ports are currently open on my computer and what program(s) are currently using those ports? Also the option to close any ports selected would be helpful/
Thanks

Active Ports will let you see which ports are open and by which applications.

Thanks CrazyM, this is by far the best and most featured port explorer I have come across.

Do you know how to get it working on a XP SP2 machine?
What services, and drivers need to be enabled for it to log active ports?
Thanks.

you guys probably understand this better than me.
Just for your interest; Symantec lists Aports as a risk.
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/securityrisk.aports.html
Hijacker/trojan can execute code for Aports to shut down services.
Would this be likely to apply to these other viewers?

Only Symantec does, none of the other anti virus detects it as a virus including Avast and Kaspersky.
Just wondering

I don't think they mean it is a virus/trojan per se
but that it can be used by malware..to terminate programs

Is it not working on XP SP2?

My vote is for Tcpview. Thre may be other ones that show more information, but tcpview is fairly easy to understand and the use of color is helpful. It does not install any drivers on your system.

Thanks for the suggestions! Currently I'm using TCP/View and its a great little program, using limited resources.
Thanks

You may also be interested in this little gem, WinDump 3.8.3 beta (http://windump.polito.it/) (WinPcap required). It isn't a port viewer per se, but a nice, simple, companion to it.
EDIT: Well, I guess it is a port viewer, but without a GUI. ;D

I give my vote to TCPview also. I too tried Vision and could not get the port mapper to work in XP SP2.
