{QUOTE-> BitDefender has struck a deal with Microsoft Romania, whereby those who purchase retail copies of Windows XP Home Edition in April 2005 will also receive 1-year licenses for BitDefender 8 Standard Edition, at no extra cost."I am thrilled at the prospect," declared Oliviu Talianu, BitDefender Country Manager for Romania "and I can see this deal expanding further. Windows XP Home Edition is a very popular product, and I am certain it will only gain in market share with the inclusion of a strong antivirus solution from BitDefender."

"One of Microsoft's core goals is to offer more and more value and security to customers. This OEM initiative is a step in that direction," stated Viorel Apetrei, Marketing Manager of Microsoft Romania.

The deal will come into effect at the beginning of April.

Pricing for BitDefender 8 Standard Edition normally starts at 30 EUR for a 1-year license. <-QUOTE}

This is good news, go go Romania :) It's a fast groing market there. I hope Microsoft Russia and Kaspersky are gonna make a deal too for the Russian market...

(nah, we buy Windows for $1 around the corner, don't think M$ is seeing any potential in our market :P)

LOL, Blackcat I what was it $100HK for 5 CD's. If you believe in pirated software, which is bad :)

But on topic, I believe this is a good step in getting more of a variety in OEM PC's. Now if they could only do that here in the states.

Truly, the step is very positive. If more security products are supplied as OEM products, people can be made more aware of their PC's vulnerabilities and would take proactive steps to secure their systems.
I have seen forums where people ask "Do I need an Anti-Virus?"

Steps like these are commendable.

the so called "deal":

M$ bundles with Bidefender desktop product ONLY for retail market, ONLY until 30 of April and ONLY for Romania. which means almost nothing probably for the "protecting the home romanian user" point of view. and certainly nothing for most of the users of those forums.
unfortunatelly, it's only marketing play and not much in the basket for the regular romanian cyberDracula.
