hi
ewido guys: could it be possible to put the updates available as zip files for us dial up users ?

Already working on it (however with an auto-installer) but no release date known yet, sorry...

Would it be possible to do it *without* the auto-installer ?
As much as I like running exectables, I'd prefer to just have a batch job that unpacks the files into an appropriate place... then restart ewido as necessary (assuming that it doesn't monitor for its definitions files being updated underneath it, so as to ensure that the definitions file is not truncated...)
Edit: I'd also think that the delivery time might be quicker....

Maybe but I currently don't think this is necessary ;)

The installer can be run silently and ewido also monitors the signature directory for changes -> no restart required ;)

The installers will be generated automatically -> no delay ;)

It is the "will be" part that I was referring to as the delay
As a slight off-topic aside, what would happen if the hard disk was full and the file got truncated during the install
[likewas a bit of malware could truncate the definitions file]

No it won't, the installer-creation part is already finished ;)

In such a case the signature file is automatically deleted by the suite and will be downloaded again with the next update.

Interesting, no warnings given anywhere to alert us of the fact that the definitions file was truncated then?
I had thought because you said... -{ Quote: "no release date known yet, sorry" }- that it wasn't done yet, if you have already done most of it then you sure are trying to set user expectations low

Any chance of having link to the most recent 2 files with a fixed filename ?
That way the download could be trivially scripted...
The Full download is currently
http://download.ewido.net/ewido-signatures-full-20050330.exe
If you made a link pointing to the most recent and named it with current then it would be more easily found without having to worry about what timezone you are in relative to me... and an IMS get would only get the new file if it had changed (so we wouldn't be wasting your bandwidth)
http://download.ewido.net/ewido-signatures-full-current.exe
Thanks

fish25,
Thanks for that, did I use an incorrect name
Are you going to mention the alternate download filenames on the page for those that are interested (or is it a wilders special for ppl reading this thread?)
http://download.ewido.net/ewido-signatures-current.exe
404: File not found
Cannot find /ewido-signatures-current.exe powered by ewido networks download gateway
The full signature file downloaded without any problems
http://download.ewido.net/ewido-signatures-full-current.exe
Thanks again

fish25,
Are you going to put your updates for the 3.5 beta on the updates page as well ?
A direct link for them as you previously provided would be nice :)
Seems like as good a way as any for me to keep trialling it, this way I can provide feedback on the free version (whatever its limitations are) of it while its still in Beta
Thanks
