::) Can you come up with a FREE virus protection program that is easy to use and maintain, has small regular updates, is effective an is not a memory hog?
Thanks

Brain scanner 2005. It has everything you need.
BS v2005 comes with improved heurisense analyzer that is based on Common Sense technology.
It has everything you are looking for:
-FREE
-Very small update (Daily pill size and weekly cumulative bottle size updates)
-Very effective. Better then KAV.
- No memory hog. It works outside your computer and has no impact on your machine.
Hope it helps. ;)

;D What's the harm in asking? Are you that sure all have been discussed? In any event it is good to see others opinions, after all isn't that what we come to Wilders for?
Thanks

You know...From time to time KAV misses a virus or two...Thats when BS comes in play. :)

Oh yes . I know . All AVs will miss some . Just trying to learn . Not being a smart butt . I am trying to figure what makes BS better . Are you just saying it is a good secondary choice to back up KAV or is it better than KAV . Just curious

The lightest AV has to be the e trust v7 promo. etrust v7 promo (lifetime free licence) is still available for free download. http://www.xlangaming.com/nuke/modu...irus%20v7.0.139
After loading up e trust you need to update the drivers http://www.excid.com/faq/?id=1&language=en > click on "update antivirus" tab on the left
This is still a very good anti virus with both vet and InoculatIT . very light on ones system too. You can always download a free anti trojan / malware scanner like Ewido or such if you feel the need to suppliment it.

eTrust promo can be gotten here (http://209.51.129.66/~xlan//nuke/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownloaddetails&lid=45&title=eTrust%20Antivirus%20v7.0.139)

Or you could try the 12 month E-trust AV free trial available at the Microsoft (http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/downloads/default.mspx) site. You do have to fill out a form to get a link, I might be inclined just to get the v7 download. Hard call. It is relatively light, but there are really just a handful of contenders in this category.

wildman if you can sort your stack issue out and get e trust promo and the update drivers ( as above in my link ) you will not be disapointed . This is not the same as EZ . I tried EZ once but found it to be a drag . I am on dial up also as I live coastal . The dual engines are InnoculateIT and Vet and are more than likely adequate for all you need . You may want to clean up your system and defrag etc and try again with the above link . The download should only take about 50 minutes on dial up / 56k . You might need to unload any other anti virus that might be taking up room first and boot a few times so that your system is tidy . regarding the performance of Vet and innoculateIT it has more VB 100 awards than all the free ones put together . In fact it has more than most of the paid ones. there will always be tests that include the kitchen sink that will say it doesnt do this or that , but then what does in this day . If you need to add an AT /malware scanner as well download e scan free to use as an ondemand once a week . these two will give you excellent protection.Far better than most paid . And it will be the lightest AV you have tried to date.

;) Thank you, it is obvious that you are a gentleman, but as I said, I give up on this entire situation an will now take my chances. This does not mean that I am entirely unprotected by the way, I do have other security programs installed. I may still utilize AntiVir/PE an try to obtain the updates on the weekend only.
Thanks

I, too, highly recommend the ETrust promo. I recently went back to it again after fooling around with a bunch of other antivirus programs. I just like the ETrust v7. I didn't have to download it, have it saved to CD along with a bunch of others. It's a great program and I recommend it highly.
Solarpowered Candle -- has there been any upgrade to the engines? I'm running the old 7.0.139, the one I originally downloaded. The update automatically, but only the virus signature, I guess. I no longer have the URL to manually download anything.

If you go to http://www.excid.com/faq/?id=1&language=en then look "update antivirus " on left side of page. This will take you to a download that will update your drivers. You just need to download and load it up . It will automatically update the drivers for e trust v7 to the latest version.

I just installed etrust promo and updated it and along with the def updates it also updated the drivers to the current versions without manually having to download the drivers separately .
