I have found some strange things while I was merging (using Hostess) the latest Hosts file update from Steve Martin with my existing Hosts file.

You see two kind of things:
1.
In some entries my existing Hosts file seems to have had the IP number 0.0.0.0 instead of 127.0.0.1 (127.0.0.1 is the format I use for my Hosts file). I don't know whether that was a previous error by me.
2.
What I'm more worried about, are the changes from 127.0.0.1 to a "real" IP-number.

I have send an email to Steve with my questions.

Steve has sent out an update alert to his subscribers noting that there was an error in last nights update. See copy of email in reply #1 here (link) (http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=7122;start=0#lastPost).

From Steve's overview of problem...
-{ Quote: "There were some entries in the latest update that contained valid IP addresses instead of 127.0.0.1 or 0.0.0.0.

The files affected were
full_0000.txt
full_0000.zip
full_127001.txt
full_127001.zip
hostess_0000.txt
hostess_0000.zip
hostess_127001.txt
hostess_127001.zip
hosts_0000.txt
hosts_0000.zip
hosts_127001.txt
hosts_127001.zip

This has now been fixed, please get the new version. Sorry for the troubles. This happened after I did a DNS lookup to verify the entries were valid but didn't change their true IP to localhost." }-

:) I've got that email from Steve too.

But now I have another "issue".....
I like to have the entries organized in their groups.
(I know: you can also do it without that).

It seems the format of the group-names have now changed a little bit....
Look at the following screenshots of Hostess with some groupnames, and look at the group Yahoo.

BTW: I have stopped importing the latest Hosts file update to give myself some time to think.

First screenshot with the Yahoo group as it was:

Second screenshot with the Yahoo group as it comes up now:

Well, maybe it is all my own fault, could well be, I don't know.

Nope, again it was my fault. I had done some editing from within Excel and it had placed a tab after each group name. It's now fixed if you want to download a new file and try again. Sorry for the troubles.
