Disspy Lite - Possible new AntiSpyware program?

I was browsing through the list of updates/added programs of MajorGeeks and noticed this: http://majorgeeks.com/download4519.html - Disspy Lite 3.0.0, I'm wondering if anyone has used it, or heard about it? (I myself have not, as I'd rather see if anyone else has any experience with it first.)

Without question Disspy is an antispy program. There is a free *Lite* version, & a NON-free ($40!!) version. Georgeous GUI. I will give the Lite version a trial.

Comp01 - I have been using Disspy ever since it arrived on the market. Bellgamin is correct - LITE version is completely free and you can do almost everything with it - scan, remove, backup,.... Unfortunately, Real Time monitor (which is suppose to protect you constantly and to remove all spyware as soon as it gets downloaded on your machine), Trojan Guard and Deep Scan are available only in PRO version (which is app $40). But, Lite works for me just fine...

GUI is fenomenal, very easy to navigate through, and I must say that it is really fast - much faster than most of the competition... At least on my computer....

Anyone knows if it's better to use, say, Spybot, Ad Aware, or Disspy? Are they all doing the same job with identical results?

I tried this program and after the scan he find 2 items that was false positive.

The program said that I have the CommonName in 1 registry and 1 file...

Only have 256 items in the database...

This program didn't add anything to my protection, so I will uninstall it...

Definitely not impressed either. Found three false positives one it considered WildTangent because the directory was named wt. The second was a considered a porn dialer since the folder was named dialer in my Visual Studio .NET program examples. The third was a game url.

Not good at all.

This is an easy program to use.
The interface is really well done.Fast scanning and updating too.

BUT, I have the same false positive as Vampiric Crow.
Common Name in the registry.

Well, I did not have such problems.... I tried Spybot Search and Destroy and Disspy found few that Spybot didn't.... and no false positive eighter.... Did you contact custommer support regarding number of files and false positive??? As far as I know, those 256 items in database are not actually an items but the number of grouops... I mean, for example Spybot shows number of all files and only single spyware can have more than 100 files... So I believe that is the case with Disspy.... So far I'm using it together with Spybot, but only because Spybot has real time monitor and Dispy LITE doesn't.

if you test 50 diferent programs on same disc and same files on it, it is most likely that all results will be diferent because all those programs have diferent databases. I mean, they have about 95% files in databases which are same, but still 5% diferent. It is same thing with AntiVirus software. That is why many professionals advise to use at least 2 diferent softwares. In that case, it is very likely that you will cover app 98-99% of all spyware...

I can tell you that many dialers DO HAVE THEIR Dialer folder.... So that is prabably the reason why it marked it as a spyware (or whatever)... But if you know for sure that file reported is not spyware you can simply use Exclude option...

I was forced to use exclusion list in Norton AntiVirus because I have some scripts that are not viruses but AntiVirus constantly reports it as a such.... This is very common if you are a programmer because some softwares are looking for specific code signatures which you may too use but not for wrong purpose (virus, spyware....)...

My personal opinion is that sometimes is even better to receive false positive from time to time, than not to get real spyware/advare/virus listed at all. After all, even if you delete file and discover that it was false positive (that is what happened with me and Norton AVP), I believe that all those programs have some sort of Recycle or Restore Bin so that you can always restore those deleted false positive files... At list that is my opinion....

I downloaded htis software after what was posted on here and I have to say I personnaly dont like it one bit. It came up with a false possitive called commonname like others have said about theres. I dont know how you can call its inteface nice. To me personally its ugly. Looks like they have just thrown everything on one screen. The way it shows results isnt exactly straight forward. Also the results of scans if it find something I cant seem to find out the location of the file or object. I have now taken it off. It's got a thumbs down from me.

There are so many antispy programs out there, and a lot of them are hoaxes. There are all these "free" programs that state you have spyware, and then claim that in order to remove them, you have to purchase their "full" or "premium" edition. The spyware detected is just a trick-the false positives.

I have tried thousands of them and I would have to say that Giant (now MS) Antispy is the best.

You're right about that file... inetmgr is bad file....

Also, TrBot is right - many fake antispyware programs do show that you have spyware and you indeed have to pay for full version in order to be able to remove them. But personaly I don't think Disspy is one of them - Lite version can delete, restore and exlude found files with no problems and no money... You only have to register it (and buy it - $40) to upgrade to Pro version which has Deep scan, Trojan guard and Real time monitor... This is very similar to AdAware - free edition also can scan and remove files but only the pro version has Real time monitor (I believe thay call it "Watch")...

It also says you are running Windows 98, lol and IE, which you pointed out were wrong ;)

I removed Disspy Lite today.

I was curious to see how frequently the program had updates available.
I tried to update today and I got an error message"subscript out of range".
The program did connect for update.
Worse yet,Disspy Lite froze and had to be terminated with Task Manager.
Too buggy for me!

Why MS antispy isn't used is beyond me, it's great. Although I despise Microsoft with a passion, it's a great program. Too bad they didn't think of it hahah.
