deleted 1.0 from add/remove and installed 1.0.1 and it runs just fine. It kept all bookmarks and links.

Hi, :)

Just wondering ! Does it keep all your themes as well ?
I use Firefox exclusively now and I would hate to lose all my Bookmarks. :(
Is everyone SURE about these issues ? ???

HA.! Love it.
At risk of being a bore; Idiot proof again.
Worked for me straight off ;D
Nearly overwhelmingly wonderful, the whole thing.
All credit to those who contributed from one very happy user.

I have FireFox 1.0 PR and 1.0 installed on my PC. I did not uninstall one when I installed the other. I noticed this the other day when I installed Java and Macromedia Flash and I was asked if I wanted to incorperate it with my FireFox browsers.

Should I delete the older versions or just leave them where they are? then I will install the latest version.

hi, Hard Rocker :) it should be OK. if you want to be 100% sure you can make a copy of the folder at C:\Documents and Settings\user name\Application Data\Mozilla just right-click and pick copy and keep it somewhere safe. themes, extensions, bookmarks etc are kept there :)

EDIT you might have to enable seeing hidden files and folders to get to the folder first. press the windows key and E to bring up explorer then Tools>Folder Opitions>View>show hidden files and folders

I used the windows add/remove programs to uninstall FF.
Just before uninstall completed I got a window that said
"not all FF components were removed, do you want to remove all components"
I clicked yes. That could be the reason.

I keep a backup of my bookmarks in my documents. I have a folder called Firefox bookmarks and I export my bookmarks to that folder every so often.

So do we still need the SpoofStick entension with this latest release of Firefox? Or does this version of FF fix the problem?

Tested the .ZIP version. No problem with the update. New version is a RAM hog! Also CPU load constantly hits 100% when processing multiple windows at the same time. When idle, the CPU load returns to 0%. This would explain why FF may be faster with a more powerful PC. I'm running a 600 MHz PIII with 384MB and W2K SP1/WXP Pro SP1. Firefox is not know for being an efficient user of CPU clock time, but 100% CPU load for a browser? The previous version tops out around 60 to 70% on my system.

May do a clean install and retest.

I dowloaded and installed without uninstalling v 1.0. It seemed to install over OK, but today when I checked I found that I had both listed in ADD/Remove of Control Panel.
Brilliant me, I removed version 1.0 and everything connected as I could find. Then I had no shortcut. I tried to find a way, but I think I some part of 1.1 was removed somehow.

I finally removed 1.0.1 reinstalled it and it is going great. I should have done as suggested and removed 1.0 before installing 1.0.1.

I was surprised that my bookmarks were still there.

Just another experience, and Firefox is the best browser out there in my opinion.
Thanks.

Thanks Ronjor!

As far as Netscape 8.0 goes, the beta release has been delayed for a couple weeks due to some slight problems, is what I heard. You can download it here http://browser.netscape.com/nsb/ when it is finally released.

Anyone know if the speed tweaks are included in the new version?
If not, would the old tweaks work?

They are working just fine on my box. I uninstalled 1.0 and installed 1.0.1 and all
my settings were retained in the new install including the speed tweaks.

Hello ;)

It seems that I'm getting this problem over and over on FireFox 1.0.1:

When trying to navigate sites which require Java applets to display, FFox launches the JRE (all right), but the process seems to take forever... In other words, FFox suddenly hangs, trying to load the applet. I then have to stop the proces in xp task manager. :(

Strange. Didn't have this problem on FF 1.0 nor previous.

Nothing wrong with the JRE, though. It's the latest 1.5-O1 version, and it works perfectly well on Opera 754u2, Opera 8b2, and Mozilla Suite 1.7.5 (Mozilla which, BTW, I'm glad I got my hands on, because I find it to be a really great browser and mail client!)

Any suggestion as to what might be wrong with this Java problem? The tweaks are the same in 1.0.1 as they were in 1.0

Thanks

P.S. Does anyone know if extensions such as AdBlock are available for Mozilla?
Cheers ;)

Extensions for Mozilla. http://extensionroom.mozdev.org/

I'm using Java 1.4.2_06-bo3 with no problems in Firefox, K-Meleon, and Mozilla.

Firefox seems to be the worst at handling Java for some reason. ?

Up to a point. The National Weather Service in the States decided to use Java for their radar. ::) Slow to render at times.
There are plenty of other weather sites that don't. I do like to see realtime radar here being as we are subject to Hurricanes. :lurking: :D

No its not starting again, there is a simple fix for the popup problem, its not sneaky spyware or anything, its legal popups that the browser is allowing, you can disable this feature, theres a fix somewhere, google it.

Hi BB, ;)

I don't know if you're using a Host file, but if your not and you would like to try the one I've compiled ... I can email it to you. It'll kill most ads. ;)

If you do want to try it you'll have to stop and disable the DNS Client in services.msc.

Another option; give Proxomitron a try ... merge JD 5000, Kye-U's and Sidki's config packs ... and they'll nuke every popup.

One of the things mentioned at the link is custom ad blocking filters for Adblock.
You can download the latest list and import into adblock.

Save the file as a txt file on your hard drive and add it to the list already in Adblock.

I just wanted to thank you for posting this, I have been looking for something that will block ad’s for some time now but did not want to have another program running in the background just to take care of that. I had heard about Ad Block but did not fell like making my own filters. Now I just installed it and am using those filters from the link and it is working perfectly at blocking ads!
