I knew this, and I like ZAPRO... I am just doing testing to determine if ZAPRO is responsible for my computer freeze ups - lock ups...The privacy features on it can't be beat!!!

I will be reinstalling it today...

Hi,

I'm using Sygate 5 Pro. ;D, I was using ZAPRO 3 but changed to Sygate and have not looked back.

I have talked 3 other people into using firewalls.
I've got 2 of them running ZA :), both have DSL.
And 1 went with Sygate 5 ;D, is on a cable modem.

Hi, Loki..

Di you use WIn XP Home, by any chance.? I liked Sygate but I noticed it stopped System Restore from making automatic restoore points.. Have you noticed that?

Hi Straight Shooter,

I'm on WinXP Pro and I haven't seen any problems with restore but then I've not looked. :-[ Sygate has been great for me ;D. I had too many minor problems with ZAPRO.

Thanks for responding..

Would you keep an eye on the System Restore for a couple of days and let me know? PM me, please? I would like to know if this is a problem I had or if it's an XP Specific problem. I like the way Syygate worked, and I had no other issues, ZAPRO was great in running but sometimes would lock my system (I think)..

Thanks,
Jim

Straight Shooter.I have Sygate Personal Firewall(free) v5.0 build 1150s on an xp home edition pc.I have had this firewall(1 update)for at least 6 months.I see that you are interested in whether or not system restore works with that firewall installed.I haven't used system restore since I installed Sygate.I just checked back to December and I do have restore points. These are points when I uninstalled a program(s) and they must be automatic as I don't set them manually.I don't know if that helps you,but I thought I'd check it out and let you know.

I've tried them all over the years and Sygate Free and Pro give the least problems... in fact I've now installed Sygate on so many machines I've lost count, not ONE problem on any....

I daren't mention problems I got with others :)

Let's just say that with the others, they seem to either work perfect for some people, don't work at all for others, or just give lovely instability :)

;D

Well, I just put in my vote for ZAPRO.. It definately WAS NOT the cause of my freeze ups... (Yay!)

ZAPRO is easy to configure, the new version of 3.5169 is barely noticable on my everyday computing, and it has the best and easiest "on the fly" configurable privacy features I found yet...

Let's keep those comments coming!

At this time I'm using ZAP 3.5. (about 6 months now)
I also like Sygate as well. Both very respectable IMHO !!

I used the free ZA for a long time with great results then I bought Zone Alarm Pro, because they gave me "NO" tech support, even thought they say the pay customers come first, I got hacked.

I use Sygate now.

Also ZA Pro was too complicated for me. (Not a nerd)

Of course Outpost Pro! ;)

Reason: very good firewall, one of the best.

I'm waiting for testing v2 beta (I'm memeber of the Beta Test Team).

;D

I am using ZA Pro 3.x on my desktop, but I am using Panda Platinum (includes firewall) on my laptop and I love Platinum.

The ZoneAlarm firewall is good but it is so much easier to configure and to use Platinum. For instance, in ZA, it would alert you that abc.exe was attempting to access the internet. Most of the time, I would not have a clue, which program was actually trying to access the internet. When I clicked on For more information, it was usually of no help.

In Platinum, after you install it, there is a dialog box, which is displayed and you go down the list selecting which programs on your hard drive will have access to the internet. If a program is overlooked, then Panda does a popup with the program name. There are daily updates of the virus definitions, which are done in the background automatically without me having to click continue. This is very handy. A message box is displayed after each update to let me know that the update process has been completed successfully.

IMO, the Panda software is more thorough and comprehensive. http://www.pandasoftware.com/

Panda is one of the top three sellers of AV / firewall software, so I find it interesting that they are not even listed.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Cheers,

Linda

pin,

don't know if tiny2 is giving u complete stealth.

look here: http://www.pcflank.com/art19.htm

ck your stealthness here:

http://www.pcflank.com/scanner1s.htm

and here:

http://www.dslreports.com/scan

watch for the ping result at dsl

if you get good results from the 2 above try GRC just for grins ;D

https://nanoprobe.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2

for those who have not been to GRC tests are near center of the verticle page, left click on "All Service Ports" very fast probe test ck the other tests (file sharing, messenger spam & browser headers) too.

I have switched firewall programs a few times lately.

I finally settled on LooknStop 2.04p2.
I'm very happy with LnS. :)

Hi All. First I used ZAFree, then switched to ZAPRO. No problems and All ports are always "STEALTH" ;D. Also for AOL users, the new nanoprobe "All Service Ports" scan may result in disconnection ??? from AOL. Scan it through IE. instead.

I'm assuming the sygate users don't use webwasher, proxomitron (maybe cookiecop i'm not sure) or any other local http proxy right?

I use Kerio 2.1.5 and love it! Although I have used Sygate before and it was good while I tried it :).

I wouldn't use Sygate now, simply because of the problem of it letting programs "piggyback" out with proxies (I use the proxomitron).
