So, are you still dreaming of snow? Are you this kind of skiier? (See Pic below- the slope is called RopedeDope:)) You have to hike to this one!

A little site I found, packed with snowboarding...everything!

Booyah Basin - Silverton, Colorado
It is a very private ski park, only about 80 visitors a day and they planned it that way, to keep out the condos, stores and all that comes with it!
Snowboading, skiing in Winter, crazy cycling in the other three seasons, a little town that used to be a boom or bust silver town. Not for everyone- I know!!

Silverton Mountain Photo Gallery
http://www.silvertonmountain.com/gallery/albums.php This is where I got these wild pictures!

I have to admit I haven't used these in a few days, but, they gave me no problems and worked. Enjoy the snow, no matter what you decide, Black Spear!!
PS> I am not a great skiier, in fact I am a dangerous one, just ask all the people I knock over!! Once knocked over a WHOLE line of people waiting for the baby ski lift, don't think they bothered to go back!

Silverton, most of the little ski towns look like this. The big ones, Aspen, Vail, WinterPark, BreckenRidge are crowded and pricey! You could wear your self out trying to get in a couple of turns!

These are all the Western Range places, they are not soo touristy.

Marja

Whoops, missed the town!! (Well, it is small! LOL!)

I like this picture, it looks like an old frontier town, which it is! duh! I mean without all the cars and modern paraphanalia!

;D As some may remember, I have told about being a world traveler. I have been to some of the most famous ski resorts in the world (Colorado, Germany, Austria, and California). I have loved the lodges at each and every one. Have asked those who were with me to not break any bones, and told them I would be right here at the lodge when they were done.

Thanks

Wildman,

Why not take the train from Denver to one of the resorts? Then you got the city and the mountains. They have a lounge on the train too. ;D

-{ Quote: "Are you this kind of skiier?... You have to hike to this one!" }-You are kidding right? Where are the Quad lifts, where are the restaurants and warm fire places while I eat my mid morning snack, hot lunch and afternoon snack? I don't see the hotel nearby with a hot tub... ;D

STOP please.
You Swine Marja. Please stop.
These photos are causing dangerous stirrings.
Will not be able to get to Colorado or Canadian rockies this year for not unhappy reason of arrival of Boogie board.
Risk of horrendous domestic split and "mountainous" child support if even seen to be dreaming of 11000 feet and associated activities.

You lot in the upper half of the globe may not realise what fanatical skiers we are here in the land of Oz.

We all give away a year of our lives to follow the winter.
I have been a liftie, cook, ski photog in Aspen (when only 1 traffic light) in a different life and different time. Have slept on so many floors across Europe and tha American and canadian Rockies. I have even skied at Sea level in Canadian East coast. Not to forget heli skiing in NZ and Himalayas and Canada

The area of OZ that gets snow is the same size as Switzerland!
Problem is our best vertical is 2000 ft from peak altitude of 6000ft.
We love to ski.
Have a careful listen to the accents of the local help at your resort of choice you will hear a lot of 'strine 8)

Apart from Eastern seaboard and deep attachment to ocean here, probably the only other place I would like to live is Colorado ;D

:) Longboard: Hey you got the Snowy mountains. Perhaps the skiing is better else where, but the trout fishing is hard to beat. Question: Are they still refereed to as the Snowy Mountains or are they now called the Blue mountain's? Lived in a place called Sue city (approx. 1958 - 1960). Approx. 65 to 70 miles from Coma. (No longer there, part of the Snowy mountain project - T-2).

Thanks

Hey Wildman.
You worked on the Snowy-Hydro Scheme. How fantastic. Unbelievably tough conditions.
One of the great engineering feats of the century.
Really opened up that part of the wide brown land.

I love the high plains.
Was down there recently for fishing (and farm work: to keep me honest)
Have been down there on and off since I could walk.
I remember Jindabyne before the dam.
My old man helped put up the first rope tow in the snowfields. He was an engineer and taught me a lot about the scheme.
The influx of foreign workers there was a great boost to our country.
You should've stayed :)

Wonderful couintry there: the Tom Groggin, Tumut, the old Kiandra goldfields, The Snowy Highway :still one of the best drives in Aust.

Not perhaps as spectacular as the Rockies but ours.

Very posh little towns now. Most of the glory of the construction is hidden except to those who know where to look. Most of the activity down there aimed at sports now. Many who visit have no idea.
A bit sad that there is not a more permanent and suitable memorial to those who worked there.

Did you know you were making history?

( maybe we provided a refuge for a Wildman on the lam ;D)

There was a re-union recently of all the workers.
Did you know about it?

Gee, Longboard - so sorry I was tempting you to flee to the snow!!(snicker)
I have lots more pix if you want me to post them! (LOL!)

Seriously, it will still be here, probably long enough for BoogieBoard to teach his grandchildren at least!! So, we will keep the lodge fires burning for ya!! :)

You, too, Wildman! I bet you have some marvelous stories to tell!! Please share some with us anytime!! This world is changing so much so fast - we need to remember where and what it all came from and WHO built the foundation!!

Happy Valentine's Day to you both!!!

Cheers!

;D Longboard: Oops, should have clarified, I am old but not that old, it was my father who was the engineer, I was 11 years old at the time. I was the only "yank" at Canberra Grammar at that time also. Fond memories.

I have a dream of returning to Australia before I pass, but don't know if it will ever come to fruition.

Thanks
