Kaspersky Pers. Pro & Extended Databases

Hi,

As far as I know Kaspersky Personal Pro 5.0 currently does not support the Extended virus database, but Kaspersky Personal 5.0 does. This is quite strange situation: the users of the cheaper version can detect more malware. I heard a rumor that this will be corrected in a new version of Kaspersky Personal Pro. But when is that coming? ??? Anybody can give some hint on this?

I don't use Kaspersky myself, regarding the pro version I've not heard anything about an upcoming new version, I'll go and check it out.

There is an upcoming version of Kaspersky Personal Pro 5.0, and its in beta currently. I don't know when it'll release, though. I don't use Kaspersky either.

It's a release candidate at the moment, i would expect a final version in 1-2 weeks, and yes it does have the extendedbases as well as the supersecure/x-bases as an option. :)

Does the Personal (not Pro) version also offer X-bases (or will it offer in future)?

The X-bases are mostly for network administrators and experienced users (http://www.kaspersky.com/extraavupdates) , therefore i would think that it will only be an option in Pro.

I use personal myself with extendedbases and have so far only had one positive (riskware) from them in the roughly one year i've used them and no false positive so far. Personally i don't think Pro is worth the extra $ for home use. You can use extended databases or the equivalent in KAV Pro 5.0.19 by enabling "Riskware detection" in the settings. This is how I was told to do it on the KAV forum, it does not make since unless Pro already downloads the extended database’s extra protection was only enabled in the last version. Nevertheless is does seem to add another level of protection.

Riskware.avc database is only a subset of the Extended Database. Extended Database also contains Pornware.avc and Adware.avc.

When you enable "Riskware" the pornware and adware are included. There is also a separate "Detect hack tools" enabler as well.
