Ok, I realize some might think I'm a total dum dum...but I really don't know.
If it's an adress, for example: h*ttp://www.blahblah***.swf (http://www.blahblah***.swf) ...
What does .swf stand for ?
I know there's .com, .html etc...but I never seen ".swf

It's a Macromedia Flash file.

Ok Ron...so one wouldn't need to worry visiting a site with this 'extension', or however you call it ? No?

It depends. There are those that won't use flash, javascript, activex, java, etc.
Flash is a program that runs on YOUR computer.
An old news article. http://www.theregister.co.uk/2002/01/08/flash_gets_its_very_own/

I understand, and thanks for the informative link Ron.
The reason I ask is, on the 10-4ward, there's a link with .swf .
I was just wondering if it would be safe to visit - Especially when some of us
don't have those disabled what you mentioned.
I either never pay too much attention or I don't know. But I never seen a website with the .swf ending.
Am I getting too paranoid ?

you can never be to paranoid. I went to that site and it is pretty poor quality. but the kid lip syncing seems to be a little wierd in a funny way.

you just have to have good security and be able to trust it or there is no sense in being on the internet at all

I would just say keep your antivirus updated (as always) and keep up to snuff here on the forums.
One of the basic security rules in computing is to not blindly click on every link.
Try to stay with links you know are safe. If you don't know ask.
No, you're not too paranoid.

bigc & Ron,
I am as careful as can be. And of course my security is up to date ~ always.
That's why I didn't visit the link, because I was a bit suspicious, since I didn't know what that extension meant.
Oki Doki. Got it now. :D
But one more thing: If one wants to go there, ActiveX & CO would have to be enabled, correct ?
Well...not for me. :o

No. Flash will work any browser if you have the flash plugin.
Use Firefox and you eliminate activex as a problem. It's not in the firefox browser. Or disable active scripting in IE.

Yes, I think I have that plug-in.
And to confirm. ActiveX, plus Active Scripting is disabled.

Does SWF not stand for ShockWave Flash?
