What are the best tools available to get more in information about the people hacking you, preferably tools which are not firewall independant.

NeoTrace Pro?
err... McAfee desktop firewall has a built in something for this, right?

I have used it, was pretty good but I heard some described it as a polysterene door and changed to something better.

There's the "Pro" method...
look at logs
traceroute the hacker.

There are several free online services/utilities available.
Sam Spade Tools (http://samspade.org/t/), Network Tools (http://network-tools.com/), Network Utilities (http://centralops.net/co/) are just a few.
