All I did tonight was register some M$ software through the net passport thing........now I can't get rid of this mongrel thing! I have messenger disabled in startup through msconfig.....and messenger disabled in services through the control panel! Please Help....It's popping up and annoying me all the time.

Hi Buck, the service: messenger has nothing to do with msn messenger.
if you want to disable msn messenger completely you should go to uninstall windows components, the same way you uninstall the preloaded games in windows.
if you want to stop the msn today poping up or whatever popping up, you can go to options in the msn messenger and uncheck all you can find ;D
that works for me.
hope this helps.

Thanks Infinity....I'd actually already done that. Still popping up. It's signing me in automatically. I've never used it and don't intend to start! Maybe there's something in the OE settings...I'll have a look now. Been googling and all over the M$ pages for an hour trying to sort it.
Cheers,
Brad.

did you try to fully uninstall it trough control panel, system, clean drive, then take windows components, then uncheck msn messenger, press next and it is uninstalled completely.

Thanks Bubba and Spanner.....It was the msn messenger? the chat thing which I don't use.....but somehow managed to get up and running! I believe it's sorted now thanks. As for the other messenger which throws popups....I believe I've always had that one disabled. Thanks for your responses though, It's always greatly appreciated!
Cheers,
Brad.

if you have safe xp you can disable it there. i have it disabled so i can't remember the correct wording for this next bit, you can also stop it from running by opening it and clicking on, i think, options and unchecking run in background and load at startup.

Hi BB, ;)
Just to add a little ... to totally rid yourself of MSN messenger .... Delete the MSN Messenger folder in "Programs" ... there will be 3 dlls running that you won't be able to delete running in "normal" :P mode ... reboot in "safe" mode and delete them. ;)
HTH, ;)
