Hi Guys:

I thought I would post this as I have seen some newer members asking for test sites, and other info.

I cannot be sure if I have posted this previously on this site, and if so, I apologise, either way, it will bring a pretty good starter's listing for newer members to have at their disposal in one list.

At time of posting, each link has been verified :)

ONLINE SCANNERS TESTS YOUR MACHINE FOR VIRUS/ETC:
Trend Micro's free online [Housecall] virus scanner: http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
BitDefender Free Online Virus Scan: http://www.bitdefender.com/scan/licence.php

SCANNING SITES:

NOTE: These sites 'probe' your computer looking for vulnerabilities in your system. Probe to see what Ports they can/cannot connect to, what info they can get about your OS, your browser, clipboard, email weaknesses, etc.

Please make sure you read each site's page first as you want to make sure you are scanning your IP and not your ISP's Proxy Server. Some sites you will have no choice to alter the setting if you are behind a 'Proxy IP' that your ISP provides. I personally cannot be scanned by one or two of the sites most of the time, as they only detect my ISP's Proxy address, therefore waste of time and your ISP may get cranky if you keep probing their ports. ;)

email EXPLOITS TESTS:
Declude email tests: http://www.declude.com/tools/mailsend.html
GFI Email Security Testing Zone: http://www.gfi.com/emailsecuritytest/

FIREWALL / SYSTEMS TESTS:
Some of these sites you may have to "Register", just fill in a UserName and password or email for verification. No personal details needed, all sites listed below are trustworthy.
Note: Also, the terminology may differ site to site, what one site classes as "Stealthed" may be "Blocked", etc. Blackcode's site [first in list] results are either "Closed" or "Open". In this case "Closed" is what you want. Other sites [GRC's] will have "Stealth", "Closed" "Open", in this case "Stealth" is what you are looking for.

Blackcode: [I]This link deleted by TAS as it now redirects to an Adult Site  Thanks to member 'Longboard' for the heads up on this. ;)

TWEAKS & TIPS:
Keyboard Shortcuts: Dozens of shortcuts to help navigate quicker. Example ~ Have you ever clicked on a link, the link then opens up in same window, then there is another link, etc. etc. and you get lost trying to go back? Well, for those occasions when you wish you could get a new window QUICKLY [yes, I know in IE you can set preferences to open up new window each link, but not always convenient], simply hold down the Shift key while clicking on the link and a new window opens. Lots more in there.

there is this: http://www.iggyz.com/files/Bookmarkz/antivirus.html
Over 770 links to various information/topics/fixes relating to Viruses. It's a "Must Read" for anyone seriously interested in security.

Edit: Reference to live malware site has been removed. We can't link to sites that provide real/functional malware components. Thanks. LWM

I hope I have not 'doubled' up on url's. If so, then it must be a good site, lol.

That's it for me. I do have more, but post pretty long as it is :)

Cheers, TAS.

thanks house of games. :)

I have a text file that I add sites to when I find them that are of interest. Been collecting them for a couple of years, and every now and then I have to cull them, as I had over 100 such sites listed.

I picked a majority of the better ones, as a lot I have not listed just pertain to my OS [Win2K PRO]

A lot are similar in content, but each does have its own use.

I must also apologise to LWM and rest as I did publish a site that had trojan cleaners, etc. but also actual trojans. Wasn't thinking clearly, DOH! as no matter what warning you put, if you say "WET PAINT" people will "touch". :(

Cheers. TAS.

Great list! Thanks! :) :)

(Question: "........I did publish a site......but also [had] actual trojans." ..deleted - requests to post malware URLs are in violation from our TOS - Forum Admin

Hi TEL, thanks and welcome to the forums.

Uhmmm, bit unsure re your "question" so will answer what I think you are asking.

In the lists, I published a link that had specific trojan removers, etc. plus some other tools, BUT also had actual trojans you could download.

The moderator at the time rightly deleted that particular link as against forum policy to link to *live* malware, etc.

At least that's what I think you were asking? :)

Cheers.

MR BLAZE:

No probs mate, go for it. Only too willing to share and learn, after all I got a lot of sites from other people's postings and from my own browsing and clicking links all over the place.

Each time I got an interesting site, I copied the URL in a text doc and it just kept growing.

Cheers, TAS.

Hello Beginner. Welcome ;D

Yes, that is a good site, and yes, I did have it listed [once in the online AV scan, and once under Browser/Firewall Testing section]. 8)

But nevermind, it is a good site, so worth mentioning twice. ;)

Hope you enjoy the links 'Beginner'.

Hi again... ;)

BTW, I was wondering... If you had to advice a beginner and suggest to him the ten sites YOU like best, which ones would you pick out of the list you started this thread with ?

Now that is why I need a printer!!!!
Bookmarked and have been doing same to each as going along.
My previous "frantic" worry, would have been put to ease faster knowing sys is fairly safe and infection free and that drive was just on last couple of gasps, (sounded more like a high pitched scream), and not "Evil Inside"

thanks for the BEST LIST!!

Hats off to you !!!! ;D 8)

Just a suggestion: It would be nice if this Tread was updated as I found some of the links not working such as StormRanger & iggyz.com/files/bookmarkz/antivirus.html.

Also Info on TweakCentral is now a year old.

Not being pickie. Just was wondering if it was time to update the info. what with the changes that have been made with the release of XP SP2 etc.

Thanks as the information posted was a great help and should be continued as it will help others as they come on board this Forum.

Hi Terryala,

Good to see you here at Wilder's. In response to your inquisition, our good friend Tas has been a bit busy as of late
(though occasionally dropping by).....you can find an update of sorts here (http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=53711).
I'm sure if time permits he'd be accommodating via pm. :)
