This thread is very old, and refers to an old version of SpywareBlaster. A new thread will be opened soon.

Hi everyone,

I'm always interested in the ideas you folks have, so please feel free to leave any suggestions or wishlists you have here.

I'll take a look at them for the next version of SpywareBlaster. :)

[Note: If you discover any bugs in SpywareBlaster 3.2 that have not been reported elsewhere in this forum, please start a new thread. This thread is for suggestions only.
Also, any bugs that have been mentioned here in the past are either already fixed or are being worked on for the next version of SpywareBlaster, so you don't need to report them again.]

Are there plans to add FireFox/Mozilla "Restricted Sites"?

My wish list would be for updates (manual and automatic) support proxy with NTLM autentication support.

As SpywareBlaster is designed to be used on windows computers - many based on corporate and those on small business networks using for example SBS2003 use a proxy server that requires NTLM for authentication.

Addin NTLM support would widen appeal of SpywareBlaster to corporations and increase sales?!?

I'd like to see a return to one feature of older versions, where you could see at a glance right after updating defs what had been added but not yet activated.

Some way of alphabetizing Active-X items would be nice, too. Maybe keep new unprotected items separate, at the end of the IE list, until protection is enabled -- that would cover my first "wish".

I think it would be nice to add a security feature like a password to modify the system setting for sometimes your friends or other unauthorized person may deactivate them while you are imagining your girlfriend. ;D serious say for example in a small net cafe where users of PCs are random. you never know who will use them.

I have a suggestion that maybe interesting. Spywareblaster is a nice utility when your Windows XP PC only has 1 user, but on PC's that have multiple users, it would be nice to have a feature to activate all protections on a machine level, instead of just user level. Having done this at my PC's, i find it rather dificult to keep up-to-date definitions to all users on a single PC. Since the other users of my PC aren't advanced users, they mostly forget to update and apply all protections.

How about a site license/volume license key auto-update feature? I work at a school that has a few thousand computers, and it would be nice to not have to manually update each computer.

I would like to see a site license for the auto-update feature. It is too time consuming to manually do the updates on all the systems used in a school enviroment.

Similar to Spywareblasters feature of adding Custom Blocking lists of ActiveX controls....I would like to suggest adding a feature to have the same ability for a Custom Restriced Sites list ;)

How about adding some COMMAND LINE OPTIONS for running the executable?

I do a decent job of making different scripts running various programs but I have yet to find good CLO for running SpywareBlaster, which would help tremendously!

You should add an e-mail link to the SpywareBlaster page on the Javacool site for the express purpose of reporting new Class Ids. I don't have time to page through 148 pages of threads on the Wilder site to try and find a place to report it. Here is a link to the description of it:

Commandline support

example:

spywareblaster.exe /Protect all | internet | restrictedsites
spywareblaster.exe /remove all | internet | restrictedsites

with | seperating commands

ability to download updates via commandline too, currently we can use wget (commandline download tool) but its kinda inconvenient :P

Hi Javacool -

If it would not be too difficult to impliment, I would like the ability to allow flash to be used in specific cases. Note, this is not the same as saying on specific websites. For example, the biggest flash offenders for me are the ones that do really abnoxious animations on comcasts sign in, and local pages. including the infamous rocketship blasting off repeatedly....Anyway, on the other hand I like to look at the local weather, and I preffer the slick buttons to the sparton text links that are there on the same website. So if flash killer is enabled, I cannot see the weather and the buttons. If it is not then I have to be annoyed by some really abnoxious ads.

This may sound amazingly picky of me, howeve, if it was feasible it would make it feasible to leave the flash killer active instead of constantly switching back and forth.

I have an alternative, but i will post it separately, so it's hopefully less confusing!

Hello Again, Javacool -

I really, really, really hate flash animations. Here is another wish regarding protection from intrusive, distracting flash animations. Basically, it is for a method of turning flashkiller on and off more quickly than by opening the program and going to tools and checking / unchecking the box.

There are two alternatives that might be feasible:

1- at tray icon that would toggle the flashkiller on/off, maybe Flash with a line through it for off, or without for on. This would certainly carry a pricetag in terms of system resources, but if it were an optional feature, I, for one would enable it.

2- a hotkey to toggle the FK on or off. I don't really know if this would add any overhead to running SWB. Since I already use hotkeys for other things I would not thinks so, but for all I know certain services have to be enabled to do this, and that could impact some users.

BTW - I just realized SpywareBlaster is the second longest running freedom program that I use. The first is Spybots Search & Destroy, which mentions your program by name in the immunization feature. Therefore, SWB is the two longest running protections on my computer!

I work for my school cleaning student owned computers, my wishlist for this product includes the ability to create a .reg / .exe / .bat or whatever of the updates to the system I wish to make, to install on a computer that doesnt have this program installed. And then be able to just double click it after I finsih cleaning their system, to protect them. I know this would be incredibly useful in a corporate enviroment as well.

How about adding a sticky here in the forum, much the way Lavasoft has done, and Spybot(tho, not as effectively) to post the updates. When they are released, Mods or whoever is in charge of posting them, adds it there first, alerting all who have subscribed. And details of what has been added would also be great, much the way Lavasoft and Spybot do.

I have mentioned this before but it has fallen on deaf ears.

In this manner, you can subscribe to the topic, and get aleerted each time an update is issued, and not worry about staying updated.

I have this implemented on my site for the following apps:
SpywareGuard(we all know about those updates tho ;) )
SpywareBlaster
AdawareSE
Spybot
WinPatrol
SpySweeper

Anyone who subscribes to those topoisc, is never behind in their defs updating.

BTW, Calendar of Updates is working on beta testing this very soon.

Here is a good one for you! I use this program and like it ,however in my testing of this product, I find that, if in fact, I need to totally re/format my Hard drive( which I do instead of using winxp repair/restore utilities),When I download this program again after completing Fresh Install of Everything Spyware Blaster will NOT allow me to make a Backup Of My Hosts File and states " you do not have the necessary Permissions to do this". That's a real killer, since I am the Administrator and Have all the Priviliges!! Any ideas on how to fix this? *puppy*

I just downloaded SpywareBlaster and SpywareGuard, one thing that attracted me is FX support, then when I clicked on a link in the help text it fired up IE, surely it should fire up the default browser, which in my case is FX.

It's a small thing, but if you want to attract the FX community this probably isn't the way to do it.

Yes plz. Having the ability to up date through a proxy would be so cool. So many other programs like spybot search and destroy have this ability it would be great to see spywareblaster also have it. I did ask for this a while ago here http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=43312 and javacool said it was coming soon so i though it would be in this version. I guess not. I hope it wont be long before it is ready.

Someone mentioned this before...

My suggestion for SB is for it to support multiple users when doing updating. If you have several PCs, with several users (all with different passwords) - doing updates for each and every user can be tedious and time-consuming.

Just one little checkbox for "updates apply to all users of this computer" would be great!

Thanks,

Hi Javacool,

Nice software! Just wanted to let you know that I think FreeWebs.com should be removed from the restricted list. They are a huuuge free web host (alexa ranking in low 200's) and a lot of my friends now can't get to my website (and the millions of others on FreeWebs). I have contacted them and they are not connected to any adware/spyware. Thanks!

Hi,
I was wondering if it is possible to make the setting of spywareblaster password protected , because as I browse webpages , I do realise that the protection for Mozilla Firefox gets disabled and I don't know it untill I want to update spywareblaster. And by then if I have visited any site that would probably be harmful to my pc it will be late.

If it is possible to add a password protection for the setting it will be better.

Enhancement - Allow SpywareBlaster window to be resized. Viewing 5 restricted sites at a time is impractical when CoolWebSearch alone has >1000 entries.

Enhancement - Allow list of restricted sites to be sorted by name or by enables/disabled.

Hi this is lescot ~removed email address to prevent harvesting - Bubba~

It would sure be nice if there was someway to prove, test, or otherwise know that SpyWare Blaster is even working! I have nothing in the block list and nothing in the white list and all protection is enabled. Whether running the program or not I see no evidence of anything being blocked from coming into my computer. Whenever I run SpyBot S&D and Ad-Aware (usually 2-3 times per week), I always have all kinds of stuff that has came in and all of it is stuff that SpyWare Blaster was supposed to stop before ever coming into my computer. I run SpyWare Blaster 3.3 and update the definitions on average once a week. Why is this happening to me and is there a way to test or prove that it is working. Not only that but is there a way to prove whether it is working properly or not? Thanks, Les ~removed email address to prevent harvesting - Bubba~

1. Improve the Help file. I would like to have instructions on how to use SpywareBlaster and SpywareGuard on a PC with multiple users, especially and XP SP2 PC. I am afraid that only the administrator account that installed the programs is currently protected (current user). SpywareGuard starts with Windows. However, if a non-administrator or a different administrator boots the PC, there is a SpywareGuard error message on every bootup. Please fix this problem. If it is the same thing with SpywareBlaster, fix that also.

2. Combine SpywareBlaster and SpywareGuard into one program, as someone already suggested. Make sure support is included for both HKCU and HKLM, and give the user the choice which key they want to use, so that all users can be protected if needed. If HKLM support is added to the next version, there should be a radio button or checkbox to allow the user to select where they want SpywareBlaster's block list(s) to go, which key: HKCU or HKLM. This way, the user has the choice.

3. If the user or another program has already added sites to the restricted zone (Spybot, SpywareGuard, or IE-SPYAD), let SpywareBlaster be a "manage-all" program to manage any site found in the restricted zone, regardless of what program or what user put it there.

4. Let SpywareBlaster completely integrate with IE-SPYAD (HKCU) and IE-SPYAD2 (HKLM). IE-SPYAD and IE-SPYAD2 have .reg file installers and uninstallers. Why not let SpywareBlaster have a way to import these lists directly to add/remove sites?

5. Allow SpywareBlaster to also manage sites for the Trusted Zone. Again give user the choice whether they want sites added to HKCU or HKLM. If user chooses HKCU and sites are already listed in HKLM, display sites in HKLM and give user option to move those sites to HKCU and vice versa.

6. In addition to the radio button where user chooses between HKCU and HKLM, allow SpywareBlaster to display any sites that are in either zone and whether each site is trusted or restricted. For instance, user chooses HKLM as the zone they want SpywareBlaster to use, but there are some sites already listed in HKCU (trusted or restricted). Let SpywareBlaster display the list of sites in HKCU and whether each is trusted or restricted and prompt user to move all those sites to HKLM. Similarly, if user chooses HKCU and there are sites listed in HKLM (trusted or restricted), display the list of sites and whether each is trusted or restricted and prompt user to move all those sites to HKCU.

7. Display a warning message if a site appears in both HKCU or HKLM at the same time and let the user choose how to resolve this issue.

8. Allow SpywareBlaster windows to be maximized, especially when viewing and working with lists. Better yet, open lists in a separate window that can be maximized. It is very good that the help file can be maximized.

9. SpywareBlaster, like Spybot, can make the hosts file read only. SpywareBlaster can also create an encrypted backup of the hosts file. Allow SpywareBlaster to also be a complete hosts file manager. Let it display all sites in the hosts file as it does (or will) with restricted sites. Let it easily add or remove sites. Let it merge different hosts lists from different sources into one and remove duplicates. Make sure the hosts part of SpywareBlaster has a find feature. This would eliminate the need to use a separate program just to update, manage, and merge hosts.

10. Allow a direct link in SpywareBlaster so user can navigate to Internet Options in Control Panel, as well as the registry Zone Map (domains and ranges) for HKCU and HKLM.

11. SpywareBlaster has a section called Browser Pages. You can change the pages here but cannot make them read-only. In another part of SpywareBlaster you can make the home page read only. Integrate that feature also into the Browser Pages Section, or link those two sections together somehow. Allow the user to also be able to make the default search pages read only as well. This is just taking it a step further. Better integration.

12. As someone else already suggested, allow exclusions on Flash Killer. Disable flash on all sites except for specific sites you add to a list in the Flash Killer section. Be sure there is a find feature there as well.

how about an umbrella program (perhaps to entice donations...) that would incorporate all the utilities offered at the "spyware..." site (and maybe with SBS&D) into a single console with user-friendly interface and added firewall. I just donated to the auto update, and don't mind doing so either, but many more would take the plunge if everything was tied together, and the voluntary donation (sliding-scale type structure) was used with the enticement of a comprehensive security umbrella. Poor people need security too, something you guys realized... THANKS FOR THE GREAT WORK!!! *puppy*

Improve the Custom Blocking feature to add (or exclude) cookies and websites. Right now you can only add activeX controls and their CLSIDs. I'd like to be able to add web sites and cookies also. In the Internet Explorer section and the Restricted Sites section, which display restricted web sites and cookies (as well as activex), there is no way to add entries. You can disable entries that are already in there, but you cannot add new ones.

I'm with HandsOff (March 1, 2005) in thinking that it would be really nice to have a way of turning FlashKiller on and off more easily than by opening the program and going to Tools>FlashKiller and checking/unchecking the box.

I know that this isn't the main purpose of the program, but alas these days Flashkiller is really useful, and I interact much more often with FlashKiller than with any other part of SB.

My suggestion is this: On the front page ("Protection") of SB there is a section of Quick Tasks, "Shortcuts to the most frequently used Spyware Blaster functions." Why not add an On/Off toggle for FlashKiller to that list of shortcuts, since Flashkiller is indeed frequently used?

That might not be as handy for the user as HandsOff's suggestions, but perhaps it would be easier to put into the program.

Thanks for SpywareBlaster, in any form.

Not only does SpywareBLaster Update hang on manual update with "program not responding," but any attempt to eliminate the process execution is fruitless; PC reboot is the ony way to end the hanging. There HAS to be some simple explanation to this. (I experienced this same kind of behavior a while back with a new version of the Yahoo anti-spy tool, and basically ditched it due to exasperation; every time I tried to check for updates/new versions, it hung.) Disabling AV & firewall has no effect.

I WONDER ... is this one of those programs that should be downloaded & installed with the AV/FW turned off?

Spyware blaster already blocks bad cookies, bad websites, bad active x, flash blocking, custom block and makes coffee.

Whats the next best thing? Block ads! MOST of us use Firefox or anyother geck based browser but some still use IE and have trouble with ads, recent discoverys about advertisements (hidden or otherwise) have found that like tracking cookies, most track users down by how long they visit websites, are they viewing the ad, where they click, track the ip address and everything and send it back to advertisement companys through methods or javascript. This is not only a annoyance and a nousance but a security threat to user identity. PAH-lease Put ad blocking in the next version of spywareblaster as well. It's already a great thing but can be even greater.

First; a great, easy to deal with application! Thanks for making it available :)

As many have said before it would be EXTREMELY helpful and a very welcome addition to have the protection covering ALL user accounts(on WinXP) in one instance when updating/installing.

Have a FREE Auto-Update mode.....
Also, well, that's all I can think of, except.....Having a button that allows you to add CUSTOM RESTRICTED SITES. Therefore, after downloading IE-SPYAD, you could add all of the restricted sites from your restricted sites zone. However, make it easy to upload many sites at a time, so you won't have to add 1 site at a time.... Like, make it have a thing where you can copy and paste a list of sites into the custom restricted site blocking. That way you can copy the list of restricted sites in the IE restricted zone in 2 seconds, instead of manually copying each site, which would take 20 hours...with IE Spyad.

It would be very helpful in the restricted sites section if users could create their own list of sites to block, separate from the program's list so that they could easily keep track of any changes they've made. Also, if this custom list could be forwarded to you SpywareBlaster guys to see if you want to add those sites to your own database, that would be very cool, too.

Please urgently consider Windows XP Home users with multiple “Limited Account” users. Allow a “Computer Administrator” to override an individual’s settings and enforce “Enable All Protection”, or give us a batch script or command line interface so we can enforce protection through the Registry or the All Users Start Up folder. Without these, the computer itself is still vulnerable.

im just a casual user, but i would reallllly like to see some easier way of managing whats been protected against and what has not, also a better way to mange the entire list would be nice, like alphabatizing it, or grouping by common variants, etc. out of the thousands of entries, i have only one that i wish to remain unblocked. sifting thru those thousands is tedious and time consuming, especially after an update. another thing id like to see, now that i just thought of it, when protecting against newly updated stuffs, the option to keep currently unprotected items unprotected would be nice.. just some thoughts, sorry if they weren't coherent.

I would like to suggest a change in the design.

If the contents of the Restricted Sites are visible, curiouslty can get the best of children. They get ideas on web sites that they did not have prior to viewing the list. :)

May I suggest making that list invisible but if a person needs to exclude sites, then they can be manually entered in.

Thanks.

1) Separate the Cookies and ActiveX entries in the Internet Explorer tab, putting them in separate tabs or scrolling boxes.

2) Put the ActiveX codes (e.g. {AA58ED58-01DD-4d91-8333-CF10577473F7} for Google Toolbar Helper) in a separate column for organization.

3) Alphabetizing (by clicking the column headers like in Windows Explorer):
In the Mozilla/Firefox tab, all the cookies are already organized by name. No issues here.
In the Restricted Sites tab, the sites are listed by their title. It would be nice if one could alphabetize the addresses.
In the Internet Explorer tab, it would be nice if one could organize by the Item Name. Everything is already organized by Type.

Hi,

I'm a long-time user but I just found the forum(s) this morning. Thanks for the opportunity to research your fine product.

I now have three machines up and running (2 application machines + Internet Gateway/Router). These are NOT for any business - just a "learning lab". I try to keep all maintenance and "Security" tools consistent across all platforms. After SpywareBlaster installation on each machine I did a manual update to get the latest data. Then I decided I could capture all the updates on one machine and propagate them across my LAN to the other systems. This worked OK, but it still took many steps. I began looking for a single download method (like for Ad-Aware, Spybot, NAV, and others). I did some searching through the SB-KB and also registered here and did more searching. I found - in the "Tips & Tricks" thread - sort of an answer to my need... the five files that can be downloaded manually. Two of those links actually download/save a file. However, the other three of those links produce a browser (IE) display of what appears to be a record-dump of the files. Is there a problem with the three links that display file contents instead of performing a download ?

Second question: Instead of having to do five different downloads is there possibly an FTP server (or something similar) where I could grab all the latest files in a single step ?

TIA for all help/suggestions.

hello
here's another form of hijacking: my work resets the home page for explorer to the work home web address. they do that through the windows installer utility or something like it, as soon as i hook to their network. even my local IT guys say this is annoying - it is headquarters doing it. i find this practice offensive and additionally i want to boot to google in my case as it is useful.
it would be great if your great utility spyware blaster under ->tools -> internet explorer pages was able to set it to values and have it overwrite whatever is there after boot like once it is booted. that way work would override it as administrator when i boot, and you would set it back to what i want.
many thanks for the great program !

Hello Javacool -

Spywareblaster just keeps getting better. By now you have it down so well that you probably yearn for a good programming challenge, right?

My idea is regards an additional feature to the hosts safe to help protect the hosts file function. I don't know if this is feasable, or even if it is already done, but I was thinking that a natural compliment to the hosts safe would be a tool that notifies the user when a change has been made to the hosts file. I realize that this condition is easily checked manually, but really, when is the last time anyone has done that. Besides, this just the sort of monotonous chore that is better performed by the computer.

I could imagine many ways to accomplish this involving different commitments of resources and different levels of protection.

The simplest and least protective would be simply printing a line on the protection screen, or the tools screen, or wherever a user would see it in the program interface. a problem here, of course, is that one may not use the interface much.

Other ways seem like they would be possible, maybe creating a registry key that would store the current update info, and check it for change during boot up, or execution of the brower.

Maybe its just that I am oblivious, but it seems to me I have gone for long periods of time were my hosts file was either deleted, or screwed up and I never knew.

You could say that Spybots provides some protection here, but I would not consider it likely to help much. Something where a warning is explicitly displayed would be more to my liking.

Anyway, it's just a thought...

I searched this thread for "Unexpexted Error" and found nothing, so I'm posting this ssuggestion. (edit: oops! I had mis-spelled "unexpected")

I had the same problem as other users, i.e. "Unexpected Error" with no other information when attempting to start any of these JavaCool products: SpywareBlaster v3.4, DocScrubber v1.1, EULayzer v1.0, and ID Blaster Plus v2.0. The only hint I got was when running EULAyzer in Windows Safe Mode, at which time I received Runtime Error 5003. After downloading and running vbrun60sp5.exe as suggested in this forum, my C:\Windows\System\msvbvm60.dll file remained unchanged, however, aditional Visual Basic6 Runtime files were installed, and all the JavaCool products except SpyBlaster began working immediately. After I quit my web connection and web browser, SpyBlaster v3.4 also worked.

If the unexpected error message, with no additional information, is a common occurence with JavaCool products, I suggest that JavaCool installer programs check for the existence of these required files, and file versions if necessary, and then notify the user of the potential problem, along with a link to the required files, with a caveat that Microsoft may have moved the link and that the user may have to search the Microsoft database for the required files themselves.

I don't know how to do such a system check, but I will make suggestions anyway! One way, is to search the text file output of the relevant user system files for the required version information text strings. A better way might be for the installer program to run a little sub-program that uses the required files, and perhaps also uses the required mscomctl.ocx file that JavaCool users have been missing. Then the installer program tests the output of this small subprogram. If the ouput is unsuccessfull, a warning is issued.

My system is Win98 original edition with 98Lite "Chubby" shell (i.e. no webview features) and with MSIE seperated from the Win98 shell. Windows Update Service Packs were applied subsequent to the 98Lite shell modification, but before installing any Javacool products. I have MSIE6 SP1, Outlook Express6, and WMP v7.1 (note that JavaCool's WMP Scripting Fix v1.0 worked previous to the vbrun60sp5.exe installation). Furthermore, Visual Basic Scripting Components were already installed, and no additional installtion or un-installation of these components was allowed using the following method: Win98 Control Panel--Add/Remove Programs--Microsoft Internet Explorer SP1 and Internet Tools--Add a componet--Web authoring Components--Visual Basic Scripting Support. Visual Basic Scripting Components did not have a seperate entry in Add/Remove Programs. The only other problem I'm having with my computer right now is that Outlook Express doesn't start due to "Unable to load MSOE.dll" (I mention this not for advice but in case it's realted).

Thanks for these GREAT products!

I support too those who has asked for the SpywareBlaster program to have multilanguage support.

Perhaps the better way was to have a *.lng or something like this easily editable, then people could contribute translating the program to their native language.

I could help translating to spanish, e.g.

hello folks..

Im new here but wanted to make a suggestion for the next update to spywareblaster..

one thing i would like to see is just an option in the settings. a checkbox would be nice to exclude any msn sites from the filters because as much as i like the program i find it really frustrating when i cant view a simple news article in msn from the msn hompage because spywareblaster has blacklisted it.. i know they have doubleclick.net tagged to them but it would be nice to have the checkbox for those of us that arent so concerned about doubleclick.. they are plastered all over the net anyways.. pretty hard to avoid them. that way those that are paranoid can stay paranoid and the rest of us can get on with life a bit more freely.. :)

thanks.

SpywareBlaster is operating in a passive mode (it just gives IE a list of what to do, and IE obeys). That's why it cannot flash lights and pop up messages.

Therefore it would be nice to have a test site with harmless malware. You visit this site and get infected or not, depending on wether SpywareBlaster is working or not. Afterwards you scan with Spybot SD or Ad-Aware to see if you were infected. Then you would know if you are protected or not.

Hi Stein,

I love the idea of being able to test if protections are truly active, but I think JC has us covered. When you open SpyWareBlaster it tells you if you have any items unprotected. I have checked before by removing the kill bit compatability flag for an entry. When I opened swb it showed one item unprotected. When I enabled the protection then refreshed the screen in regedit it showed the killbit was there again.

about the other protections I don't know

opera version?

stein
November 27th, 2005, 08:33 AM
A.

I wish the displayed blocking lists to reflect the actual registry settings (ActiveX Compatibility, P3P\History, ZoneMap\Domains) of all restricted sites. Not just the sites contained in SpywareBlaster's downloaded blocking lists.
Then I could see domains entered manually or by Spybot Search & Destroy and other protection utilities.

However, since it is very useful to see which bad guys I'm NOT protected against, I want to keep the feature of displaying the list entries that are not blocked (missing in the above mentioned registry sections).
It would be nice if all registry entries of blocked sites would merge with the SpywareBlaster list, so that the reminders of what is not blocked will include sites that are not originally on the SpywareBlaster lists.

Example:
Let say I through Internet Explorer (Internet Options > Security > Restricted sites > Add) enters 'badguy.c0m'. In SpywareBlaster I will now see 'badguy.c0m' on the block list in the Restricted Sites section. Later I remove it from Internet Explorer Restricted Sites zone. But still it appears in the SpywareBlaster lists reminding me I am unprotected for this site.

B.

I also wish SpywareBlaster had the ability to add IE's current url to the blocking list.
This way I could manually put a untrustworthy site (when I happen to run into one) into the 3 blocking lists.

Example:
When surfing I happen to stop at 'badguy.c0m'. I suddenly see this is a unsafe place to visit. So I open SpywareBlaster and hit the 'Add to Block Lists' button.

C.

What about adding the blocking lists to the machine level? Then users who have not yet installed protection will be protected. At least until they override the machine level list entries by entering the same site/url. And the administrator would have a much tighter control of the machine's seurity level.

And would it be useful to add the blocking lists to the registry's 'default_user'? Then creating new users will include protection for these users.

Regards,
Stein

put this in your hosts file: 127.0.0.1 doubleclick.net

Another solution is firefox with adblock. Doubleclick.net is blocked with filterset "G" and still allows perfect surfing of M$'s site.

This has been said before, so I am just placing it here for emphasis. I suggest you include just one or two new sentences (somewhere very obvious) to assure users that, yes, SpywareBlaster is indeed working. It is an EXCELLENT program, but it is so invisible--coupled with THE WAY IT DISPLAYS ITSELF ENABLING PROTECTION--that I am sure you have hundreds of people placing it on Startup or else running that display every single time they "want SpywareBlaster to start working".

What is so obvious for you devs is not at all obvious to us end-users. That is because we are very, very dumb.

Sometimes other programs undo spyware blaster's protection.

I think I caught ie-spyad doing it for 33 items, so I just emailed him about that.

But something else has done 253 items protection disabled, and I'll have to find what does that.

Request:
-------
Please have spyware blaster able to list the enabled and disabled separately and be able to save as txt file so it can be sent to those whose software accidentally disables spyware blaster's protection. This way a user does not have to search through the whole list for the red ones.

It would be best for the user to be notified at the time some other program
disables a spyware blaster killbit and told what program did this! Otherwise it
is only noticed if the user goes in and checks.

Makes me think malware could just as easily undo the protection?

I have the free version, so that is the one I am reporting on.

Hi! I don´t know where I shall contact SpywareBlasters programmer but...

I just liked to "tip" about www.impotato.com, could you but it on restricted sites? Because when my sister surfs on the swedish Harry Potter site, www.hogwarts.nu, I get DialerTrojans all the time from www.impotato.com. My antivirus is NOD32. Impotato.com is anyway a crap site. Just says "nothing" if you surf to www.impotato.com, but the servers contains viruses! Check it out! btw, it was in Internet Explorer I got the problems...

As said here many times - I wish SpywareBlaster had Opera Internet Browser support :) I do not use IE except I absolutely have to and I do not use Mozilla, I am content with Opera. So if SB would protect Opera too, it would be absolutely great ;)

{QUOTE-> My wish list would be for updates (manual and automatic) support proxy with NTLM autentication support.

As SpywareBlaster is designed to be used on windows computers - many based on corporate and those on small business networks using for example SBS2003 use a proxy server that requires NTLM for authentication.

Addin NTLM support would widen appeal of SpywareBlaster to corporations and increase sales?!? <-QUOTE}
I'd just like to second this one and put it back in the public consciousness.

Sometimes, even personal users get stuck behind corporate firewalls, and have no control over them. Please consider adding this ASAP! Pleeeeease? ;D

Unfortunately, that section of the "Tips" post is no longer useful, as you can see:
{QUOTE-> (1) "I would like to perform manual updates - is there a way I can do so?"

Yes there is - simply download the following five files and overwrite the ones currently in your SpywareBlaster directory (C:\Program Files\SpywareBlaster by default):

Download links currently unavailable - will return soon. <-QUOTE}
So I second the suggestion you replied to...could you please make update files manually downloadable from a webpage?

I use Portable Firefox on a thumb drive. In order to update it, I have to first update my wife's standard version of firefox on our home desktop computer, then copy her hostperm.1 file to the profile directory on my thumb drive (usually attached to my laptop). It is not very convenient. It would be nice if you supported Portable Firefox, or at least let me manually point to the profile directory for updates.

Also, how portable is SpywareBlaster? Maybe a "truly" portable version is in order: http://portableapps.com/

Excellent program, by the way. I almost never get AdAware or Spybot S&D reports of malicious junk on my computers (when I keep SpywareBlaster up-to-date, that is ;) ). I'd seriously consider subscribing to the AutoUpdate feature if you seamlessly supported Portable Firefox.

A simple request: I would like an icon in the notification area of the task bar so that I know that SpywareBlaster is up and running. I have the notification area of the task bar reserved exclusively for icons of my critical security programs so that when I log-on, I can see when the security programs are completely loaded and are up-and-running. There are several security programs that I use which are missing from the notification area because the icons are not provided, SpywareBlaster is one of those programs.

Hello,

I am behind a proxy server at a university, which prevents me from updating SpywareBlaster. The system requires us to enter a userid and password to gain access to the internet. This is required every time an external link is accessed. SpywareBlaster allows for proxy server settings but not for userid and password. I also use Spybot and AVG; they have a userid and password authentification option panel with their proxy server setting. Adding the password feature would be a great help.

I'm new so pardon the possible repeat message, I'd like to see a scheduled autoupdate rather than a autoupdate on boot, my pc is on all the time, so a update on boot is setting me up for out of date files.
I use the spyware blaster program loads, love it, great program.
and again make the flash blocker easier to use, on the front page instead of tools etc...I hate those ads, my wife likes em, but I hate em.

Hey,

I wish support for Opera and Firefox Portable (not installed) versions.

Maybe we can manually add an path or setting to the registry or ini-settings file.

Or you offer an setting/options in SB, in order that you can select the folder of the profile from the portable version of either Opera or Firefox.. ;-)

Thanks in advance!

Maybe "Spyware Blaster" and "Spybot search and Destroy" Teams should work together . There is an "immunization feature" in Spybot that ONLY restricts IE for certain URLs and Spyware Blaster lacks about 12000 URLs which have been added by the Spybot Search and Destroy Immunization Feature.
Maybe you guys should contribute each other with the missing feature in Spybot to integrate Firefox URL blocking and spy and malware lists.

I'm not sure if this is possible, but...

Each time a new version of SpywareBlaster is released, I have to uninstall the old version and install the new version in order to continue using the update feature.

Can you please allow older versions of SpywareBlaster to continue using the update feature without being forced to upgrade to the current version?

With each new version, SpywareBlaster keeps getting better and better, but I'd like to be able to upgrade on my own terms. :)

Thanks!

Please make it so that it crosses over to different user accounts on the same computer. My computer was infected with spyware the one time I let someone use it on the "guest" user setting. (They were downloading from the Juno site.)

I understand a lot of free software won't cross over to different user accounts. This is a major problem. Hope you can fix it.

If there's a fix now, pls let me know. Otherwise, great product!

-Ability to view new/unchecked items together. Usually, items without killbit are mixed with items already checked. This becomes a PITA when you use custom lists or when you don´t enable all protections. Having a way to group unchecked items could overcome this.
-A way to use custom lists that are not formated for SWB use. Examples: IE-SpyAD, TNT´s blacklist. In short, a way to imitate the functionality of Zoned Out.
Best regards.

I want the speed optimization for loading custom blocking list. Currently I am using a custom blocking list from here (http://koti.mbnet.fi/pattaya1/swb3.htm). When I try to open the customeblocking list tab, spywareblaster would not have any response for half minute. The list contains ~5700 items and its size is around 700kb.

In SB, once you've told it what protection you want SB to use with FF, it works perfect.

Just click the blue line to the right of FF on the protection screen.
Then select all. It's easy to see once you get there.

I recently had trouble geting updates after a Firefox upgrade. I am not saying that was the cause. I just reloaded the same version of SWB and it updated straight away.

It might have been a FF glitch or it mightbe that I was running the original app in a different partition. Since it all got sorted I never chased it up.
