Disable javascript and no info will be sent. If not, I know that sygate, has a stealth mode browsing, which prevent this info to be disclosed. I think proxomitron can do the job, by sending fake info about your system.

Why is your operating that much of an issue, doesn't make that much difference to hackers as long as you have a decent firewall.

I noticed if I go to this site http://www.whatismyipaddress.com then click the link that says "Click here for more details" then again click the link that says "more" it will reveal your OS and browser type even if java/javascript is disabled. I wonder how that could be stopped? Any ideas?

It is not a good idea to attempt to hide your browser type/ OS type etc if you want to be able to surf the web without problems or use many important websites like M$ updates, online antivirus sites and secure bank sites
All these sites NEED to know what settings in order to provide full functionality
Could you imagine the chaos if a 95 computer tried to install a version meant for XP at updates or on an antivirus site you attempted to install the version of the software meant for a different OS

titan1...
It uses JAVA proper embedded into its webpages... [very sneaky]
If you would like to block it, I suggest using PROXOMITRON www.kye-u.com www.proxomitron.info
Have fun.

Hi,
I sometimes surf with a proxy to protect my privacy.
There's a possibility to hide the OS, the navigator, the referer...
Protecting his privacy is a good idea.
But thinking of a complete anonimity is a mirage.
If there is a communication (voice, phone, morse...) there's also a signal.
Consequently a "sign" could always be found and tracked.
In the case of an hidden OS, a network administrator has the feasibility to detect which one is running.
With NMAP or specialized scanners, he will take advantage of the weakness of TCP/IP protocol by sending specific packets and analysing the log.
The more we learn about security, the more we loose our certitudes.

You can hide your personal information (OS & browser type, IP, etc.) using privacy protection softwares like goliberty (http://www.themobiweb.com/en/Go-Liberty/Go-Liberty.html)
